Mark Prior went back on the 15-day DL today.This time due to a strained left oblique.He missed his last start last weekend against the Brewers.

His DL stint is retroactive to July 5th.

Prior was scheduled to start against the Mets on Sunday.Instead,rookie Sean Marshall will take the mound instead.

Sheesh, really:hmm:

It really is a shame that these 2 have panned out the way they have for the Cubs... So unfortunate to see 2 stud pitchers like this marred with injuries:(

i think a lot of prior's problem is that he doesnt know how to pitch in discomfort/pain. Is there a pitcher in the league by the 5th or 6th start in the season who isnt sore, in a bit of pain or what not?

before this year, a lot of his injuries have been flukish bad luck (running the bases in 2002, running the bases AGAIN in 2003 when colliding with giles, Achilles problem in 2004/elbow discomfort, though that one was mostly his achilles, and in 2005 the line drive off the elbow)

I just want to know how many times has Prior been on the DL and what percentage that is of his MLB time? It has to be dreadfull.

I believe this is his 7th or 8th time on the DL since 2002.

7th time. i know 4 times he was on the DL for either line drives or mishaps on the basepaths.

he was technically on the DL last year to start the year due to some kind of discomfort, but he only missed his first start and was back in the rotation right away (and they wanted to only use 4 starters at that time due to off days). so he has had two legitimate time offs that may have been pitching related.
