The Boston Red Sox gave up alot of good young talent for this guy(Beckett).
So far to this point he's been a major let down. His ERA stands at 5.12 with 40 walks in 110.1 IP.

His fastballs all seem to have no movement at all and right doww the middle of the plate. His curveball for the most part have been hangers. Did we all overrate this guy based on one very well pitched game in the 2003 World Series?

He's a great pitcher who's still trying to adjust to the A.L, the problem that I see with him is that he hangs his fastball and some other pitches whichh is why he allowed 27 home runs already. How does he not see that?

Despite being a "major let down" as you put it, he does have 11 wins. Sox be in first with another start? I doubt it. Not argue the fact that Beckett been disappointing to a degree. Though, calling him a "major let down" when his first full season on the team is not even over yet. Unlike Clement and his mental problems, Beckett having mechanical, which could be fixed.

the problem with beckett is that he cant pitch against contending teams. his ERA for teams over .500 is approx 7 while against non .500 teams its like near 3.50

Beckett's nickname should be "Here hit this! OKAY!"

Really though. Yes, he got over rated for that one game but no, he's not a MAJOR let down. ;)

And why hasn't he got a blister yet?

And why hasn't he got a blister yet?

Just a wild guess....weather maybe? I dont know if that has any effect what so ever. So pretty much disregard this post.

For the record he had TWO big games against the Yanks in 03. Not to mention a good post season that year. BUT, we were NOT expected to win. For the BoSx, it's win or nothing. Odd that Beckett has had so many probs, he's still young though.

PEACE

Over-rated? Most Sox fan only remember that one game and base their assumption of Beckett on that, which most knowledge fans know you don't do. Beckett had an impressive line last year and he's got stuff that is good. I don't think he's bad, he's still very young. People want instant results, but that's not going to happen. You're not going to get a pitcher and except him to be great right off the bat like Liriano and Verlander. Doesn't happen that way.

If anything, people should be happy he's got a 11 wins. He's been sub par, but for being sub par and having 11 wins, I take that. Also, the season not over, so no point freaking out about it. Sox fans are so fickle. A guys sucks for part of the season, it must mean he sucks forever more. :laff:

I am a HUGE Beckett fan and trust me, he has pitched in more than just 1 meaningful game and pitched very good!

His era is 2.11 in the postseason and he's given up 21 hits in 42 IP and struck out 47!

I was at game 5 of the NLCS vs the Cubs and he was absolutely DOMINATING as he gave up 2 hits, struck out 11, while pitching a complete game shutout...

It was the BEST pitching performance I have ever seen while actually AT a game...

He's only 26 and he's got great stuff! He is adjusting to the AL, which may be a little of his problem but someone mentioned that his fastball has no movement, which I think is his major problem! When he's pitching right, he has a ton of movement on his pitches... He is a guiy that walks about 60 guys a year and he's on pace to walk 70-80 right now, so he is also having a problem locating his pitches...

I really hope he can turn it around and find the flaw in his mechanics....

There is no flaw in his mechanics, he's just not that good. He can't throw any off speed pitches for strikes, so everyone just sits on his fast ball. When it gets hit, his body language slumps, he throws it harder, and it gets hit harder.

Can he improve? The Sox had better hope so, they gave away a boatload of talent for him.

Appartently the Sox are undaunted, thy just gave him a 3 year extension. In the long run I think the Sox will be happy with Beckett. Especially if he has a good post season.
