(LANCASTER, CA) – Storm clouds threatened all day in Lancaster but it was the Lake Elsinore Storm who finally cooled off the JetHawks Saturday night at Clear Channel Stadium. Lancaster fell to Lake Elsinore 8-6 on a hot night in the high desert, their win streak stopped at four. The loss drops the JetHawks to 12-15 in the second half of the season, 4 ½ games behind Lake Elsinore.

The Storm scored early and led three to nothing going into the bottom half of the fifth inning. With two outs, Derek Bruce drew a walk and Jon Zeringue hit a ball deep over the left field fence to get the JetHawks back to within one at 3-2. The Storm came right back with four in the eighth but Lancaster refused to give in. The JetHawks scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth, the big hit coming off the bat of Jereme Milons. With two outs Milons hit a double to score both Chris Rahl and Brandon Burgess and pull Lancaster back into the game. Lake Elsinore scored one more in the top of the ninth and this time the JetHawks had no answer.

I post this since this was my first Minor League game that I have ever attended and it was a road game for Lake Elsinore. It was such a blast  to go and watch baseball on a very hot desert night. Lancaster is about 200 miles northeast from San Diego and much of it is driving up mountains but it was one of the most breathtaking drives I have ever done.

When we got to Lancaster, the game had started but the Pre-Pods were up 1-0. We paid $6 and sat 3 rows right above the JetHawks dugout. What I found surprising is JetHawk manager Brett Butler sure has aged. Seems like he was just playing himself.

I had never experienced hot desert air before and I can definitively say that I absolutely love it! You have the heat but you don't sweat. My friend said, "it's a warm blanket that wraps all around you" and that's a great description.

The JetHawk fans were certainly vocal so we made sure we cheered for our Storm. The boys did great. Smart baseball was played. Good pitching until the 6th inning and the 8th was a bit shaky. Really the score is deceiving as it wasn't that close.

If you've never been to a minor league game, GO! Very relaxed evening, fun to watch all of the kids play. I love the tradition of "passing the bucket" when a home team player hits an HR, a bucket is passed around for donations. The kid gets the money or in the case of the JetHawks, half the money goes towards a community charity. I made sure to put in $2 and I think they raised something like $75 each for the kid and the charity.

Glad you had a great time there.

I'm probably gonna go see the Gary(IN) RailCats sometime next month when I'm on vacation from work. They're only a 15 minute drive from my house.

Eric, that close? :duh: You SHOULD be going everyday. :D I can't wait to go to Lake Elsinore which will be sometime soon. There are a few minor league teams within a 100 miles from me so that makes it convenient. It's just such a fun atmosphere. Let me know about your travels.
