I think I have finally reached the fed up point after all of these years. I would never pick the Pirateas to win. I though a new manager and new lineup meant we would be competitve this year, finally! I have never been more wrong. They are just plain terrible. I am sure Tracy will get one more season to show he can turn it around, but what does he have? A core team of players who can not do what it takes to win. Forget this age thing. The Wilsons, Bay, Randa, Burnitz, all these guys have been around., Sure the staff is young and that has been a major problem, but is anyone makig progress? How can we stick with a team this poor? The problem is, attendance has still been up, in large because the all star game, but also because of the play of Freddie Sanches (who is finally showing signs of cooling off with 3 games out of the last 5 with no hits). Casey needs to be signed unless we can get a 1st baseman via trade, but other than that, I say anyone can be had for a price. I would consider moving Jack Wilson for a pitcher or power hitter and put Sanchez at short. I really like Jack Wilson, but something has to change on this team. I think Littlefield could finally be on thin ice.

I disagree about the staff - they showed some good signs of talent and I do think that they will be competitive in a couple years. The pitchers seem to be a good group but need experience and maybe one sucessful veteran who can give them some leadership and know-how. I like that kid Snell very much, he pitched well against Smoltz, pretty darn impressive outing!

BTW, Jason Bay is 2 seasons removed from winning the NL ROOKIE of the Year. I don't think he's an "aged" ballplayer at all.

Nady is not a real first baseman, I never liked it when Bochy put him out there at first last season - he makes poor decisions. But he'll do for the rest of this season fine and then the Bucs do need to find a legit first baseman somewhere. Nady should go back to right field and I agree that Burnitz needs to go. Burnitz works hard, tries hard but he'll never again be the player he was when he played in Milwaukee.

I like Randa but I agree he is not a good match for Pittsburgh and you can't get rid of Jack Wilson. He's homegrown, he's good and he's a guy you build around. Let's see what happens in the next couple of years.

What's going on in the farm system? Who's looking good right now for possible Sept tryouts?

What happened to Brad Eldred. He showed a lot of power last year, but the average was low. I was expecting to see him come out as the starting 1B this year. Maybe they left him in AAA to get regular at bats. I agree with Yagsy. They have a good core of young pitchers that just needs a good veteran pitcher to lead them.

Maybe Eldard will be called up for Sept, that would be nice to see. They prolly sent him down to build his confidence back up again, to learn how a better approach at the plate so then he'll be more ready for MLB.
