......and other 'Stros fans.

What about this rumor about Tejada to the Astros? Any legs to that? Why do they need Tejada? And who are they willing to give up?

Is it true? Is it a bunch of hooey?

Inquiring minds want to know.

:D

well, i'm not willie, but they do need offensive help and adam everett is not exactly known for his stick, whereas tejada does indeed have a halfway decent stick. ;)

granted, i dont really see it happening in season. angelos wants some big time talent in return and i dont think the 'stros or anyone else are willing to part with major league ready talent for an aging shortstop.

Aging?! He's 30! (Or, so he says...:hmm: ) And his avg. is .330, I think that's a pretty decent stick. And he's got this consecutive game streak going. I can see why the O's won't give him up for just anybody. Except it begs the question that if they're willing to part with Tejada, then does that mean that they're going to be into re-building, or what. Geez.

I don't think it's gonna happen anyway. I also heard Morgan Ensberg included in the rumor.....and that rumor said they'd move Morgan to 1st base.

Ah, well. Trade deadline is almost here, and then we don't have to listen to rumors anymore. :D

thats the thing, many insiders suspect he is about 2 or 3 years older than he says. i think hes got a number of good years left, but i do believe you will start to see a decline within the next year or two. probably wont be enough of one to say put him out to pasture, but doesnt he still have 3 years left on that big contract of his?

and yes, it will be nice to know that most of these rumors will be dead by 4pm tomorrow. :)

All I hear anywhere in the news is how the O's arent thrilled with him and he's not really thrilled with them. :notme: who knows. not me!

Word is that the offer was Brad Lidge, Morgan Ensberg and an unnamed player. I think it started with Jason Lane with Houston willing to go up to Preston Wilson (which makes no sense to me since Wilson only signed a one year contract). Baltimore supposedly wanted Hunter Pence who is tearing up AA and Houston said no way. Pence is as close to a can't-miss hitting prospect as they've had since Lance Berkman was signed.

The Pup (our GM) reportedly told Baltimore that he was willing to go to extremes, whatever that means. The hold up in the deal, or any deal involving the Orioles is Angelos. He bogs things down and frustrates both other teams as well as his own people. Miggy lovers can be thankful and the faction that wants to see a deal done want to hang him.

The aspect that I find strange is that supposedly none of the Astros top pitching prospects are mentioned in any possible scenerio (and they are numerous). I don't see how the Orioles would want to trade a player of Tejada's calibur who is signed for another 2-3 years for for players who are struggling in Houston.:notme: But that's the rumor...

There is also a supposed deal out there with the Rangers which includes Hank Blalock.

As usual. I've been hearing things to that effect for years. He's bogs down any deal.

Exactly what I was thinking. If they're trading away Tejada, it's a sign that they know they're going nowhere, so they're re-building with prospects, and pitching prospects are key, yet they're not asking for that. :notme:

All I hear anywhere in the news is how the O's arent thrilled with him and he's not really thrilled with them.

They've patched things up. All I read is that he's happy and doesn't want to go anywhere. And Perlozzo keeps telling him he's not going anywhere. And he is signed until 2009.

Here's some inside news from Roch Kubatko on his blog at the Baltimore Sun:

Deadline madness

Keeping up with the Miguel Tejada trade rumors reminds me of George Jetson on the space treadmill.

"Jane, stop this crazy thing!"

Roy Oswalt was pulled off the table before he could leave a mark. The wax never had a chance to smudge.

Make no mistake, the Astros were willing to part with Oswalt, which instantly would have given the Orioles a No. 1 starter for this season and the next. They could have tried to sign him to an extension, and if he was intent on becoming a free agent, they could have traded him for prospects at the next non-waiver deadline.

But it's a moot point now. And the market for Tejada is drying fast.

Forget the Rangers and their Hank Blalock proposal. The Dodgers are fixated on Alfonso Soriano, not Tejada. It hasn't been confirmed that the Angels added local product Nick Adenhart to their package, but the Orioles would have bitten by now if they liked what was put in front of them.

If Texas was willing to part with Mark Teixeira, a deal would be completed. But what's the rush? People close to Teixeira know he wants to play here once he becomes a free agent (and that isn't after the 2006 season. I swear.)

Tejada won't play third base. The Orioles want a frontline starter for him, not just prospects and a position player. And he can demand a trade after the season if he's dealt.

Obstacles everywhere.

The Angels and Rangers want Tejada to play third base. Oswalt no longer is included in Houston's proposal.

Anyone still believe Tejada is leaving Baltimore?

If the Orioles wanted to deal with the Dodgers, they could have traded Melvin Mora, the player Los Angeles really coveted before he signed his extension. Like many teams, they're sniffing around Daniel Cabrera, hoping that the Orioles lose patience and make him available.
