PITTSBURGH -- Barry Larkin and Aaron Boone each drove in two runs as the Cincinnati Reds beat Pittsburgh 8-5 Wednesday, ending the Pirates' five-game winning streak.
Larkin singled in two runs and scored in a four-run second inning before he was forced to leave after aggravating a muscle strain in his left ribcage.
The Reds were 6-for-6 on steal attempts, with Reggie Taylor and Gookie Dawkins each swiping two bases.
The Pirates had gone 21 innings without allowing an earned run before the Reds scored twice in the first against Kip Wells (1-1).
Taylor and Adam Dunn walked before Boone's two-run double hit off the glove of rapidly retreating right fielder Armando Rios.
Juan Encarnacion opened the Reds' second with his second home run of the season.
Wells then walked pitcher Jose Acevedo. After a wild pitch, Taylor and Larkin singled. Sean Casey and Dunn followed with singles to chase Wells, who allowed six runs on six hits in 1 1-3 innings.
The Reds added a run in the fourth off Sean Lowe on singles by Casey, Dunn and Todd Walker.
Acevedo (2-0) allowed five runs, four earned, in five innings. Danny Graves pitched the ninth for his second save.
Pittsburgh's Brian Giles hit a two-run homer in the fifth, his first.
Adrian Brown tripled to lead off the Pirates' first and scored.
Rios opened the second with a double and moved to third when left fielder Taylor and center fielder Encarnacion converged on Kevin Young's routine fly ball, bumped and allowed it to drop. Taylor was charged with a two-base error.
Pokey Reese's single drove in both runners.
Notes:@ Casey has hits in six consecutive games. ... Lowe got all seven of his outs on strikeouts. ... Cincinnati pitchers had gone 35 innings without allowing a home run before Giles connected. ... Rios left the game in the sixth with cramps in his left leg. He is expected to be available for Thursday's game.
