Just heard on the Padres pre-game show that Chan Ho, who had severe pain in his abdomen over the weekend, had tests reveal that he has had some internal bleeding. He's very sick and doctors are not sure what is going on. To make matters worse, he's anemic so losing blood is not good!

He's due to have a blood transfusion tomorrow and hopefully with the medicine he's taking right now, he'll get better soon.

More updates to come as I get them.

I read about that this morning, tuff stuff. Supposedly he's doing O.K. but the report I read was posted yesterday. Keep us updated if you would. I hope Chan Ho's O.K.

PEACE
Brett

Park bled internally; prognosis good

Lower intestinal bleeding caused starting pitcher Chan Ho Park to lose half of his blood volume, but the Padres expect a blood transfusion and iron supplements to soon restore the anemic 33-year-old.

“As soon he can come off the disabled list, we think he is going to be ready to go,” manager Bruce Bochy said yesterday.

After Park reported abdominal pain and lethargy during the team's recent series in Denver, he was put on the DL and subjected to medical testing.

Trainer Todd Hutcheson said “the bleeding stopped on its own.” As to what caused it, he said, “We might not know exactly what happened.”
Having ruled out a bleeding ulcer, the medical staff expects Park to “feel a ton better by Friday” after undergoing a transfusion, Hutcheson said.

Park can be activated Aug. 10. Mike Thompson assumed Park's start on Sunday and will stay in the rotation to face the Nationals on Saturday.

Barfield lauded
Josh Barfield was named the National League's top rookie for July, acknowledgement of his 40 hits. The first Padres rookie to have 40 hits in a month, Barfield batted .400 with eight doubles, a triple and three home runs. He stole seven bases in 10 attempts.

Notes
In his search for a third baseman, General Manager Kevin Towers even called the rival Dodgers. “We asked them about Joel Guzman,” Towers said. Guzman, 21, was playing left field in Triple-A, but the Padres, who employ former Dodgers GM Paul Depodesta, believed Guzman could play third and that he would be available cheap. On Monday, the Dodgers traded Guzman and a Single-A outfielder for Julio Lugo, a free agent-eligible infielder.

Pitcher Clay Hensley is especially excited about starting today's game. Hensley grew up in greater Houston and rooted for the Astros and pitcher Nolan Ryan in particular. One of his Little League coaches was former Astros catcher Alan Ashby. “I'm really looking forward to it,” said Hensley, who is lobbying to pitch in Houston next week as well. “I've got a lot of people back home watching it.”

Entering last night's game, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez led the majors with 31 hits since the All-Star break.
