Waiver wire trade.

Whatever the christ that is.

In any case, adding him will certainly help!

put him on waivers and since he cleared waivers because no one else wanted his sucky ass (or contract).

Well I would agree that his contract is high but me thinks the Sox are going to benefit BIG TIME from getting him...

Dude is only 2 years removed from having a pretty fine season... Played 75 games last year at catcher and only 21 this season with Hernandez coming in so he is pretty fresh... I think he's going to have a huge impact for Boston...

I agree. When healthy, he produces. He won't win a gold glove but when all is said and done, I think he'll be a positive.

I loved that DP hit into in the 6th with the bases loaded and nobody out. That just made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

With him being a career .200 hitter, part of me held out hope that this would be the 1 in 5 AB's where he gets a hit. Silly me. :hmm:

Someone ought to sleep with his wife.

:laff: I was just hoping he would be smart enough to strike out and give Youk a chance.

Since this is about waiver deals, I heard that Andrew Jones was placed on waivers and there has been a claim.

PissedPrincess

I saw that too Blue. It's not us though. My guess is Anaheim. Lots of teams claimed him, the one with the worse record gets to try and trade for him.

d'you think Atlanta will trade him? they can still pull him back if they want.

If they get a bunch of young studs from Anaheim, yes. Otherwise, I doubt it.

But if Atlanta takes him off waivers they can't trade him for the year. Last time they wanted Coco, Lester and someone else for him.

and the problem with that is that he becomes a 10-5 guy like august 10th or something, so if they dont trade him now, he has to approve any trade offers.

I'm guessing they will trade him, because the angels need offense, and he can definately provide that.

Blue56

They can also let him go to the team and allow the team to take full responsibility of him, meaning paying him whats left.

Tampa BAy tried to mess it up for Boston because, apparently, Lugo's agent was contacted by the sox about whether Lugo wanted to switch position.

Rotoworld:

Red Sox acquired catcher Javy Lopez and cash from the Orioles for a player to be named.
In return for paying about half of when Lopez is owed over the rest of the season, the Orioles are expected to get either outfielder Adam Stern or infielder Alejandro Machado, though the player would have to make it to the club on waivers for the trade to be completed before the end of the season. According to the Boston Globe's Gordon Edes, the Rays may choose to put claims in on both players as a revenge tactic after they felt the Red Sox illegally contacted Julio Lugo's agent last week to determine whether the player would accept a move to second base and a contract extension. At this point, though, such a move can't hold up the deal. Lopez will be with the club for tonight's game against the Rays.

They messed up us giving up Stern for Lopez. So now we are giving Baltimore a PTBNL.

 Sorry, Bard is going to be a mainstay for the Pads for a long time. We :love2: him. Here in SD, noone can believe how lucky we are for getting Bard. :notme:

Too bad about Mirabelli getting hurt too. I agree with James, though, this will be a fabulous move for the Sox. Lopez is a really good catcher and he will hit. He drives the ball and he's prolly nervous. Give him a chance, I'm sure you'll grow to love his production and his defense.

lopez is an absolute disaster as a catcher. his defense is subpar (always has been) and his bat has slowed down massively since 2003.

methinks he is washed up.

Josh has run into a bit of a slump lately, will that help?

He was hitting over .350 up to mid July, might have even been up to .380.

I still think Javy isn't as bad defensively as you think Ray. I watched a ton of games he caught. He got a bad rep coz Maddux didn't like him but he really wasn't horrible.

He did have a solid first season with the O's.

He's was injuried last year and was injuried this year. When injuried, he's not much better than any other catcher you can find. When he's not injuried, he's still quite a bit of pop in his bat from what he show in 03 and 04.

glavine didnt particularly like him at the time either, but someone had to take one for the team.

i was never really enamored with lopez when i watched a braves game that was on TBS or ESPN. blocking pitches and all that fun stuff, he seemed to have trouble with.

and Eva, he just got old. hes past the age of where catchers bounce back and is in the diminishing returns stage of his career.
