The Red Sox acquired infielder-outfielder Eric Hinske and cash from the Blue Jays on Thursday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The balance of power in the AL has now been shifted. You can pretty much write the Red Sox in for 2006 World Champs.

I was just thinking about how they really needed to add 2-3 players of this level before August 31st, and one of them being a starting pitcher. A Livan Hernandez/Jake Westbrook/Mark Redman-type pitcher would really help that rotation.
And Wily Mo is sweet. If that guy can put it all together, watch out.

Red Sox reasoning for Hinske:
"His appeal to the Sox comes in his at-bats against righthanded pitchers. He has a .376 on-base percentage and .575 slugging percentage against righthanders, which suggests there will be games when Sox manager Terry Francona uses him to hit late for shortstop Alex Gonzalez."
They've also been working with Cora/Kapler/Mirabelli for a WHILE. Hinske and Pena give them more bench depth
