The Red Sox have admitted they are shopping him.....evidently they are looking for some pitching prospects or prospects in general for the rental of his services for the remainder of the year. So who get's him :xmas:

lol...well the Cardinals fit into the B category....why do you think teams would be insane to trade for him though?

He's old, yes but he has put up some quality starts considering his age.

Not if you don't want too :) I guess you have to be a Cardinal fan to understand that question Yankeesfan....we have to get the "blue light specails", the Yankee's buy whom ever they want, whenever they want.....and I'm jealous :sigh: The fact is, he is pitching better than Mark Mulder, Jason Marquis and Jeff weaver.....we need help on our pitching staff so we'll take him if we can get him :)

lol....You know the thing is...if Pujols was a free agent next year the Cardinals would not spend the money to resign him.....sad but very true.

lol.....El Hombre is locked up for several more years....thank God! :whew:
How many years is Pujols signed for?
From what I heard and read, the Cardinals, Dodgers and Padres are the three teams seriously in the hunt for Wells. I believe the Sox will trade Wells, which would be waving the white flag for the season, not that were are all in the race at this point.
I think the Dodgers will end up with him. They seem to be going all out to win this year considering how weak the NL is this year, can't blame them.

I understand why teams WOULD think of trading for him. He's a veteran that can give you some good quality starts. The problem I have(and I'm thinking like a GM here not just a fan) is that the team would be giving up young talented arms(assuming you trade pitchers) for a veteran who you're just adding to your staff right in a pennant race to help carry your team there. I'm more of the type that thinks. "Is this guy gonna help us win the pennant or just maybe get us into the playoffs?" The answer in my mind is maybe the latter. Which IMHO isn't worth trading prospects over. The only way trading for somebody like David Wells that makes any sense to me is if you can make a steal out of it. LA is probably most capable of that. Again, this is all just my opinion.

Go Red Sox. Trade your only effective starter as of late.
But their season is done, so why not get a couple of prospects if they can?

The Red Sox are shopping veteran pitcher David Wells, and a source familiar with the conversations has put the odds at "80-20 or 90-10" that Boston will trade him in the next 48 hours.
St. Louis, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego appear to be the frontrunners to land Wells, the source said.
Wells, 43, cleared waivers on Aug. 3, at a time when he was just starting to come back from a serious knee problem; on July 31, he allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 innings. Because he cleared waivers, he can be traded to any team without restriction, and Wells has pitched much better of late. He has a 2.65 ERA in the month of August, walking five and striking out 20 in 34 innings.

Understood....I see your point..but I think (at least from Jocketty's perspective) we are at a point where there is probably a sense of urgency to win this year. Having said that, I think your point is well taken and I do not disagree, I suppose it must depend on what we would have to give up to get him (as always :)).

I think he would be effective for the Cards. He'd be in an easier league (at least an easier division), in a relatively easier park for a pitcher than fenway. I wouldnt give up much for him, but they should at least give it a deep looksee.

Supposedly the Dodgers were very interested, but Theo Epstein was asking for a very very hot prospect. (I want to say Matt Helm, but I know that was a Dean Martin character.) The general consensus is that is way too steep a price to ask to rent a 43 year old in questionable physical condition.

The Red Sox are getting ready to go back to their old sloppy playing ways. Your boy Theo is a genius ... Coco Crisp is SOOO much better than Johnny Damon, and what great moves at the trade deadline.
Pick up a Thesaurus ... look up Red Sox and you will find Joke in the listing.
