I just read this tonight.Mike Piazza(along with Reds' catcher Dave Ross) could be the 6th and 7th players since 1974 to hit at least 15 homers in a season, while scoring fewer than 10 runs without the benefit of a home run by them or a teammate.
Right now,Piazza has 18 homers, and has scored 20 of his 28 times via the home run.
Here's how the list looks right now.
Player Year HRs Runs/Runs
from HRs Runs w/o HRs
Steve Balboni 1990 17 24/20 4
Mike Diaz 1987 16 28/21 7
Dave Ross* 2006 16 29/21 8
Mike Piazza* 2006 18 28/20 8
Eric Munson 2003 18 28/20 8
Tyler Houston 2000 18 30/21 9
Ron Kittle 1988 18 31/22 9
