Mr Met's birthday celebration is actually this Sunday at Shea. I guess there will be lots of ,, :pepsi:, and :cake: to be given out to the fans. From what I heard, many of his friends(other mascots) will be in attendance to :dancin:,
:dance2:, :jump2:, :jump:, and :clap1:

Sunday April 14, 2002 - Mr. Met's 40th Birthday Celebration

Then, let's not forget Sunday, April 28, when they will have
Mike Piazza Bobblehead Day presented by Gold's.

P.S. Does anyone have any kids 12 or under that they would like to rent to me so that I can get a Piazza bobblehead?

According to WFAN, a bunch of mascots will be at Shea tomorrow, including the Mariner Moose, the SF Seal (can't remember his name) and the Seagull from the Brooklyn Cyclones, among others.

I must confess to be surprised that the Expos didn't bring Youppi with them. It's been suggested that the team is so budget-conscious that they couldn't afford the extra airfare. ;)

A side note, years ago, there was also a Ms, or a Miss, or a Mrs Met. What happened to her?

Homer, from the Braves, won't be here either. My thinking is he's embarrassed at being a poor substitute for Mr. Met.

I got Mr. Met's autograph at Spring Training. He also blew me a kiss. What a sweetie.

I had field boxes for today's game (guy at work couldn't go, so I bought his tickets), and there was a little boy a few boxes in front of us who was dressed as "Mini Mr. Met." He was wearing a Mets uni with a large baseball-shaped head, and a birthday hat with the number 40 on top of his baseball cap. It was very well done.

Mr. Met (or one of his spies) saw this kid, and he came by to meet him and have his picture taken. They interviewed the little boy too. That must have made his day.

The other mascots hung around the stadium all day, meeting and greeting. During the t-shirt launch, these other mascots helped the party patrol throw t-shirts and Mr. Met dolls into the stands. During other between-inning intermissions, they had "home movies" of Mr. Met, a tug-of-war between the AL mascots and NL mascots and a foot race among all the mascots that followed the route Nanner and I took last summer for the Run to Home Plate. Of course, Mr. Met won every event.

It was a cute promotion, and almost everyone in the crowd got into it.

Julie, thanks for the info as to what went on for Mr Met's 40th birthday celebration. I was busy selling the hot dogs, :pepsi:,
, and  that I didn't even have time to check out what was happening for the big guy. I did hear someone singing happy birthday to Mr Met prior to the game.

Wally Matthews of the Post spends an entire column making fun of Mr. Met, the Mets and Mets fans for yesterday's events.

We all know he's a Skank fan, and we all know Skank fans have no sense of humor.
