DENVER -- Curt Schilling once again followed Randy Johnson with a win, pitching the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Colorado Rockies 8-3 Friday night.

The Diamondbacks are 6-0 when Schilling (3-0) or Johnson start. When the co-MVPs of the World Series do not pitch, Arizona is 0-5.

Schilling, who threw a one-hit shutout and struck out 17 in his previous game against Milwaukee, gave up three runs in seven innings in outpitching Mike Hampton (0-3).

Schilling began this season with 18 straight scoreless innings before the Rockies broke through in the third. His overall ERA went from 0.00 to 1.17.

Craig Counsell had three hits and three RBIs for Arizona. Danny Bautista and Junior Spivey each drove in two runs.

Larry Walker had a two-run homer off Schilling in the sixth.

Hampton lost his fifth straight start, the longest skid of his career. He gave up seven runs and 10 hits in seven innings, and actually lowered his ERA from 11.17 to 10.26.

After two perfect innings, Schilling gave up his first run of the season in the third.

The Rockies had four hits, including an RBI single by Juan Uribe. But Schilling minimized the damage by getting Walker to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.

The Diamondbacks erupted for five runs on five hits in the second off Hampton. Greg Colbrunn, in his first start of the season after a stint on the disabled list, led off with a double. Jose Guillen singled and Damian Miller walked to load the bases. Colbrunn scored on a groundout.

Counsell and Schilling followed with RBI singles, Tony Womack walked and Bautista hit a two-run single.

Doubles by Spivey and Counsell put the Diamondbacks ahead 6-1 in the fourth. Spivey added a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Colorado got four more hits off Schilling in the sixth but only two runs -- on Walker's homer. Uribe singled and Walker hit his fourth homer, a 432-foot shot. With one out, Todd Helton singled and Todd Zeile doubled, but Schilling then struck out Todd Hollandsworth and Jose Ortiz.

Counsell had an RBI double in the eighth off Dennys Reyes.

Notes:@ Arizona's Todd Stottlemyre was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday because of the flu. Miguel Batista will replace him. ... Helton singled in the sixth for his 800th career hit. He's the eighth-fastest active player to reach that plateau, doing it in 676 games. Boston's Nomar Garciaparra was the fastest, in 587 games. ... Hampton threw out Miller in the third on an acrobatic play. On a dribbler down the third-base line, Hampton raced to the ball, slid to a stop, spun and bounced to his feet and made the long throw.

Well I'm just hopeing for a win tommorow. If the D'Backs can get a good starter than look for a good season but until then you just have to hope the other starters can bring it together.:fro:
