ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Devil Rays pitcher Wilson Alvarez left Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning with a pulled rib-cage muscle.

Alvarez went down to one knee and grabbed his right side after making a 2-2 pitch to Carlos Delgado.

The left-hander was making his second start after missing the previous two seasons while recovering from a partial left rotator cuff tear.

Alvarez allowed two runs and two hits in 5 2-3 innings Sunday. He struck out seven and walked three.

The second run charged to Alvarez came after Jesus Colome threw ball four to Delgado and then gave up a two-run homer to Jose Cruz Jr.

Geesh. Has he made 10 starts for the Rays yet? Baseball really, really needs to get rid of the guaranteed contracts. Could Tampa collect insurance on him?
