First baseman Albert Pujols could be found in Wednesday's lineup the night after a collision with Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder left him with a stinger that temporarily numbed his left arm and shoulder. "It was scary," conceded manager Tony La Russa, who rushed to his cleanup hitter after he hung on to Aaron Miles' relay to complete a fourth-inning double play.
With Pujols in the hunt for a second consecutive MVP award, La Russa guessed that he might sit out a game during the season's final days should the Cardinals clinch the division in timely fashion.
"If he hasn't done enough in five months and three weeks, I don't know what the last few days mean," La Russa said. Pujols did not miss a start after the Cardinals clinched last season and added two home runs and seven RBIs in the final two games.
