An intriguing possibility for the Rockies is Darin Erstad, a former University of Nebraska punter who is headed to free agency. The Angels aren't expected to re-sign Erstad in light of his $8.75 million salary this season, but his price tag will drop considerably once he's on the open market. And if he were to sign an incentive-laden deal, he would be worth the gamble for a year. He could fit nicely into the No. 2 slot in the batting order, freeing Todd Helton to hit fifth and providing left-handed bookends for the right-handed, 3-4 punch of Garrett Atkins and Matt Holliday.
I would love to see Erstad be a CF for the Rockies. But man he has been beat up some the past couple of years and I dont know if CF in Coors would do him any favors. But if you can get him cheap why not give it a shot?
