Assuming many of you saw this last night, pretty weird and at the same time I can't help but holler out, "Right on!"
I love how well organized this little grass roots effort was, and how they walked around without bothering anyone else but making sure that they made enough of a scene to stick it to Angelos a little. Plus, from what I could tell, there weren't too many boos or chiding from the fans who weren't part of the deal and stayed behind.
Angelos just made matters worse after the game by opening his fat yapper. His comments will do nothing more than to bolster what these fans had to say. Also neat to hear that Little Looie's nephew, Nestor Aparicio, was one of the organizers.

Angelos' comments:
"Whoever joins that protest has no comprehension of what it costs to run a baseball team," Angelos said in a telephone interview from his law office in Baltimore. Was the jerk even at the game? The common fan might not understand the financial details of running an MLB team, but then, Angelos obviously doesn't know a damn thing about running one either since he's taken a brilliant franchise and run it into the ground.
On Nestor Aparicio:
"He is a very unimportant person who has delusions of grandeur," Angelos said. "To begin with, to leave in the middle of the game is an abuse of the players who have worked hard and played their hearts out."
Yeah, there you go you turd merchant! Gee, I'll never understand how Angelos lost his job with the State Department making such tactful comments like that about the fans. Once again I ask: Were you even at the game, Angelos?

So let me get this straight, these fans were actually at the game and walked out in the 4th inning to show their disatisfaction with ownership?
Umm, maybe I'm missing somethig but how does this actually make much sense?
I mean, they already gave the O's money for their tickets along with any food/drink items they bought before the walkout so how does this hurt the O's?
I would think there are better ways to show the team that you are unhappy like not spending any money at all and hitting them where it hurts: their pockets...
I'm not against protest at all I just think this was kinda a stupid way to show it..
As for Angelos, he's just an idiot anyway so his comments were not really suprising:hmm:

Thanks for posting this, Wills. This whole thing has been debated over on Roch Kubatko's blog at the Baltimore Sun.
I'm all for protests - and Angelos has abused this team soooooo much more than a bunch of fans leaving in the middle of a game.
That being said, I wish the protest had been done outside of Camden Yards. I just find it weird that, while you're protesting, you're also putting money in the pocket of the guy you're protesting against by buying a freakin' ticket!!! :notme:
Angelos should just sell the team. 9 straight losing seasons has made this franchise a joke. A laughing stock. I think that's pretty abusive to the players.

I'm all for protestsWhy you little anarchist you ;) Don't know why, just made me chuckle when I read that line :laff:
I mean, they already gave the O's money for their tickets along with any food/drink items they bought before the walkout so how does this hurt the O's?Yeah, y'all both mentioned the way they did it not hurting the Orioles or Angelos, not hitting him in the pocketbook so to speak. I thought about that and could only think of two reasons why this might 'mean more' or be the 'better way' to show dissatisfaction with Angelos' running of the team.
First, and foremost, what it showed me was this was a group of fans who have supported and will probably continue to support the team on the field by attending games because they love the team and they're just baseball freaks like the rest of us.
Also, and I'm not sure of Baltimore's ordinances, but I'm guessing you need to apply for a permit of some sort to just get a thousand or so people to gather for some 'social/political' cause. Probably doesn't cost anything to get one, but I'm betting you have to at least apply x-days ahead of time based on giving the city ample notice to have police protection for any protesters.
When you do that, a lot of times you wind up with all sorts of idiots that show up just to cause trouble. You hold this outside and draw a few thousand people and things get ugly, you'll lose public support (and local media) for your cause from the get-go.
All it takes is one overzealous civilian and one go-hung cop, and there are always at least one of each at any big scene like this could've been just outside the park, and it's headed for some sh!tty ending.

I can definitely see your point, Willie, about all the permits needed and people wandering in and causing trouble......and they probably took that into consideration when they were planning this.
And Angelos obviously noticed......judging from the way he had to open his pie-hole and make idiotic comments about it.
Geesh......what a .....what did you call him?.....oh, yeah. What a "turd merchant".
Well, he knows how people feel, but the stubborn old coot certainly isn't going to let go of the people just to appease the lowly fans. The only thing to do is not go to the games. But, of course, people love baseball, they love Camden Yards, they love their Orioles......so the die-hard fans are going to keep going. But he's definitely going to feel this in his pocketbook. Attendance has decreased alot over the past few years.
9 freakin' losing seasons. He's probably going for 10. :hmm: :banghead
