Mets utility man to host weekly show on MLB Radio
By Kevin Czerwinski / MLB.com

Joe McEwing is called "Super Joe" because of all the positions he's been able to play over the last few seasons with the New York Mets. Now, he can add "radio personality" to his resume as well.

McEwing will make his MLB Radio debut on April 16 when he hosts the first of what will be a weekly show. Last season, MLB Radio introduced "Surfin' with Barry Zito," a weekly afternoon series with the Oakland pitcher that turned out to be a smash. Now it's Super Joe's turn. McEwing's show can be heard every Tuesday morning at 11:40 ET.

"This should be a lot of fun," McEwing said. "They called and asked for me. They wanted to know if I wanted to do it and I said yes. It's cool. I've never done anything like this before. I get to pick my own guests, and it won't just be baseball players. They can come from all areas and different sports. That way you can meet other interesting people and learn from them."

McEwing said he would love his first guest to be none other than Michael Jordan.

"I just want to know how he concentrates and performs the way he does every single night," McEwing said. "I want to see how he approaches every game."

MLB Radio associate producer Mike Dillon said choosing McEwing to host a show was a no-brainer.

"He's the kind of guy the fans can relate to and the kind of guy they would like to hear from," Dillon said. "He'll come on, answer fan e-mails, talk a lot about the Mets and have on guests. Maybe we'll even get [McEwing's former manager] Tony LaRussa on with him. LaRussa loved him."

MLB Radio is the only all-baseball interactive radio station in existence. Using the resources of the MLB Family, MLB Radio broadcasts talk shows every weekday on MLB.com. While radio stations around the country cover all sports, MLB Radio covers only baseball. Fans can e-mail their questions for McEwing and guests to radio@mlb.com.
