In the aftermath of an emotional celebration following the clinch, all-star center fielder Torii Hunter said Tuesday he has softened his stance on what it might take from the team to keep him in a Twins uniform and is open to renegotiating his $12 million contract option for 2007 to help make a four-year extension work for both sides.
"I've changed my mind-set," said Hunter, who said this season that he was unwilling to take a pay cut to stay. "Just being with this ballclub over the course of the year with all the ups and downs we had … you want to stay here with this team."

I can see the Twins keeping Hunter now. A great year this year and while being hurt part of it, great leader for the young kids and can fill that hole that Kirby left and wanting to do what Radke did and stick with this team.
He has stepped up to the plate and with the Twins getting a new home I can see them stepping up to the plate now.

This is excellent, with the way he played during the middle months of the year, I admit I was anxious to see what the Twins could get for Hunter. After what he's done here down the home stretch, I would like nothing more than Torii Hunter to be in a Twins uniform next year.

This is very bad news for me. I was hoping the Reds were going to go after him hard and move griffey to left.

Hunter will almost certainly remain with the Twins, but how he reacts to it once he has to play in April, May, September, and, with this young club, October/November in that new open-air stadium may make him regret that decision at some point. Seriously, this would be great for the Twins.

I'd have to disagree on both but in a non confrontational way :D
I think Hunter has said he woud enjoy playing outdoors in the new stadium and he has been playing as and with a young team his whole career, I think he has come to enjoy the role as a veteran leader now

Ya you are right Ryan. Hunter would love to get off that turf and play on real grass. It will be easier on this knees. I believe he has said that many times he would want to play on real turf it would have added more time to his legs.

Just ask Griffey Jr. what playing in a dome can do to your body. He probably can't wait to get to the new stadium.

While Torii Hunter wants to remain with the Twins, he said he believes he deserves the same type of contract that Johnny Damon signed with the Yankees, which calls for $13 million a year for four years. "I think I can do everything that Damon can do," Hunter said. If I was a betting man, I would put my money on Hunter returning to the Twins in 2007. The Twins have a $12 million option on him, or they can buy out his contract for $2.5 million.
After this season and headed into a new park it would be tough not to bring a fan fav that will bring fans out back.

Minnesota not only will exercise the $12 million option on center fielder Torii Hunter, but the Twins will get him signed to a multi-year extension, which will help alleviate the payroll demand sin 2007 by spreading the money out better. Hunter is the heart-and-soul of the team, and he has no desire to leave.
Oh I hope this is a true statment after the season is done!!!!!!!
