PHOENIX -- The second time proved to be the charm, as the Padres clinched at least the National League Wild Card berth on Saturday with a 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks in front of 33,019 at Chase Field.
The Friars secured back-to-back playoff berths for the first time in franchise history.
San Diego had the opportunity to do so on Friday night, but Arizona didn't let that happen with a 3-1 win.
With a 4-2 Dodgers win over the Giants on Saturday, the NL West champion and Wild Card team could be decided in Sunday's regular-season finale.
Saturday's game did not begin how the Padres had envisioned it, as Arizona pitchers Juan Cruz and Edgar Gonzalez combined to toss four hitless innings.
Russell Branyan broke up the no-hitter with a single to lead off the fifth, and Mike Cameron followed by pounding a 3-2 hanging slider 455 feet into the left-field bleachers.
San Diego tacked on another run in the sixth, with Josh Bard singling to plate Dave Roberts. The Padres could have done additional damage, loading the bases with one out, but Cameron struck out and Geoff Blum popped out in foul territory to end the threat.
Southpaw David Wells (1-2) kept the D-Backs hitters off balance, allowing only four hits over six innings.
Pinch-hitter Stephen Drew accounted for Arizona's only run with a 414-foot homer into the pool in right-center field off reliever Cla Meredith. It was only the third homer Meredith has given up this season in 50 2/3 innings.
