Nice to see him come though. Looking at the past on Joe they all said that he is going to be a hitter that will knock the ball around and have a high avg!!! Along with that some great defense!!!

Oh man, with everything coming to a head today, I almost forgot about Mauer going after this honor. Un-effin-real! Great sidebar to the entire Twins' season.

Batting Champ: Mauer
Cy Young: Santana
MVP: Morneau
Roomates winning the Batting title and the MVP would be a trip

Indeed, I think there is little doubt about Santana winning the Cy Young, he's basically leading in every stat that has ever existed or matters. As far as MVP, I'm pulling for Morneau!

When the Yankees game went final, and Mauer already had wrapped up his 2-for-4 day, the video boards in the Metrodome displayed Mauer's average along with Jeter's and Cano's. If not for his prodding teammates, the humble St. Paulite would have remained behind the scenes during his second standing ovation of the day.
"I just wanted to slap everybody's hand," Mauer said, "and got a curtain call. That was unexpected. I couldn't find my hat. I didn't know what was going on. I was in the back room, I came out, and they posted the averages, and it was a great feeling.
"I thought I was hitting. The eighth inning, I was in the hole, so I thought I was hitting, and I was like 'Gardy, I still got one more at-bat left.' He goes, 'It doesn't matter.' It was great."
Mauer, who said he felt better Sunday after being sore the past couple of days, is the first American League catcher to win a batting title, something he said he doesn't take lightly.
"It's unbelievable," he said. "Guys tell me congratulations, and that that's something (no one) can never take away, that (I) was the first."

Mauer's hesitation to admit he wanted the batting title was a seasonlong approach with the media and, apparently, with others as well. Teammate and roommate Justin Morneau said the first time the two talked about the batting race was Sunday morning.
"Today walking into the stadium was the first day we talked about it," Morneau said. "I said, 'You know what you need to do?' He had it all figured out. He said, 'I've got to get a couple hits.' "
