The Tigers won again. 7-6 over the Rays tonight. A wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth won it for the Tigs. Fick was 4 for 4, Magee homered (and scored the winning run after getting a single to lead off the ninth). Young had a couple of hits, as he appears to be coming around.

The series with Tampa concludes tomorrow with an afternoon contest, if I'm not mistaken. Then onto to the Windy City. The Sox have been scoring tons lately and the Tigers pitching will need to improve quickly.

As Stuart Scott always says, they must be butter because they are on a roll.

Can the Tigers make it three in a row?

Well, as you all know by now, the Tigers lost that Thursday afternoon tilt to James' Rays. Jeff Weaver continues to look like a number four or five starter, not a number one guy. I really like Weaver, but he's got to start winning, even if it's ugly. Great, even really good, pitchers win without their best stuff, but Weaver can't seem to win period. It's not just this year, either.

Many blame Weaver's problems on lack of run support. It's seems to me that when Weaver gives up only two runs, the Tigers get one. Conversely, when the Tigers score eight, Jeff allows nine or more. I'm starting to think he pitches down or up to his competition. Take on the Yankees, Weaver is tough. Face the Rays, Weaver gets hammered.

At some point, for a prolonged period of time, I'd love to see him just shutdown some of the teams perceived to be at or beneath the Tigers' level. If he could just stop the Rays, O's, Royals, etc... from beating the Tigers, he'd start to win some games and look like a number one guy, again. If he can't then maybe the Tigers have overrated his ability.

(Sorry, just had to get that out of my system. I'm not giving up on him yet.)
