What happened to Khalil Greene? He was great his first 2 years, now he's a backup to Geoff Blum?

Greene got hurt, the ligament in his finger took a long, long time and still wasn't 100% by playoff time. With no place to really rehab to get his swing back and the possibility of making the finger worse, Bochy felt it better to have Greene come off the bench to help with defense and occasional ABs. The ABs were the problem in terms of his finger, not playing in the field.

The other point was that Blum did such a great job in filling in, both offense and defense, that there was no reason not to start Blum and let Greene come in late for defense. That was what happened.

Greene is still the Pads starting SS when he's healthy. Problem is, he doesn't stay healthy and it's very frustrating for him, Bochy and the Padre fans. He's such an amazing player when healthy.
