Out of these free agents I would only keep 2. Aurilia has earned a spot next year. They should try to resign him. I would also take a chance on Guardado. Look for another to step in, but he can be dominant when healthy.

If we could sign Moose to a cheaper, 1 year deal, then I'd definitely want him back. I wouldn't do anything more than 1 or maybe 2 years though.
I'd rather keep Craig Wilson over Andy Phillips. Re-sign Cairo too.
Yankees
Lidle, Cory F.
:(
What about Villone? He only sucked later in the season, because Torre over-used him badly.

I'd be very cautious with relievers who were badly overused. They usually end up sucking the next season.
I'd shop Proctor too, if I were Cashman.

One of the key difference with Proctor and Villone is talent. Along with Proctor being young, too. milky, you were aware that Proctor was going to start during the season during spring training? I'm sure Proctor got a good arm, but he can't be used like Torre used him this year.
In the end, you can't even blame Torre. A good amount of blame should go to Cashman and the Boss for having Mussina and Johnson being the archor of the staff before the season start, especially considering the age of both men. They were lucky Wang was around.
The rotation must be strong. Not just talent wise, but also inning wise. You can't have your number five barely struggling through 5 innings in a good start.

Yes I knew they were grooming him to start in ST...but still, very few relievers are able to pitch so much, so often without ill effect. Overworked pitchers historically have an off year the year after they were abused, and Proctor fits the bill. I'm worried.
But who knows. I hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be the second coming of Scott Shields. That would make the Robin Ventura deal a highway robbery! :smokin:

Lol, it's already robbery.

Probably.
No but really, I'm all for getting YOUNG. YOUNG. YOUNG. YOUNG.

Hmmm......Omar Minaya could do plenty of shopping from that pool. On my wish list would be Barry Zito and/or Jason Schmidt, and Alfonso Soriano or maybe Ray Durham. Nice solid second baseman. Sure I'd love to add Soriano's bat to an already powerful Mets lineup, but if we couldn't get him I'd be happy with Durham's defense and not much bat at that position. Wait, I think I just described Jose Valentin, lol.
Robin, Durham coming off a solid season with the bat. Batting .293, 26 HR and 93 RBI. You could make a case he was the Giants' best hitter last season. He won't be a bad addition at all.
If Soriano came, he might be moved back to 2B since he likely desires to return to 2B, but we all know how bad of 2B Soriano was and will be if he returns to the position.

If the Mets acquired Soriano, it would be to play 2nd.
I hadn't realized Durham's numbers were quite that good. Cool. I called it first!

I don't know that for certain.... I'm still not sold on Milledge and not sure if Floyd is coming back.. Mets could use him in LF, where he proved to be a pretty decent OF'er...
I agree though, that the priority this offseason is to sign a frontline starter....

I have been reading that Schmidt is somebody the Reds are interested in. It would be nice for them to go get somebody to help them for a change.
