Metsuzaka? Mets To Pursue Japanese Ace

The Mets plan to aggressively pursue Japanese ace Daisuke Matsuzaka beginning Nov. 1, when Seibu is expected to make him available via the posting system. The highest-bidding MLB team will win the rights to negotiate a contract with Matsuzaka, a 26-year-old righthander who was the MVP of the World Baseball Classic.

The Mariners paid $13.1 million to Ichiro Suzuki’s Japanese club in November 2000 for the right to negotiate with the outfielder before signing him. In addition to the posting fee to Seibu, the Mets would have to come to terms on a contract with Matsuzaka.

Kevin Mulvey from Villanova, the Mets’ first pick in the 2006 draft (second round/62nd overall), allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in two innings for Mesa in his Arizona Fall League debut yesterday.

Jose Lima filed for free agency.

Haven't the Mets learned from their mistakes?? How many times have they got burned by "stars" from Japan?? :bash:

Hey, anybody remember MASATO YOSHII?

Tsuyoshi Shinjo wasn't all that bad, though.

Shinjo was supposed to be a phenom in Japan. Not so much for the Mets. Not bad, and definitely better than KazMat, but no where close to how he played in Japan.
