Anahiem @ A's
series tied at one game a piece.

Game 1 ~ Oakland 4 Anahiem 2
Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer and Hiljus pitched seven strong innings to lead the Athletics to a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Angels on Thursday.
Long and Jeremy Giambi also homered for the A's, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Long also recorded 10 putouts, many of them spectacular catches.

Game 2 ~ Anahiem 9 Oakland 7
Molina had three hits and three RBI as the Anaheim Angels held off Oakland 9-7 Friday night.

"I don't think too much about hitting. I concentrate on winning and the pitching staff," Molina said. "But I will take any hits at any time."

Troy Percival got two outs for his second save and first since coming off the disabled list. The All-Star closer was out with a strained muscle in his right side.

One day after being activated, Percival entered with one out and two runners on in the ninth. He walked Scott Hatteberg and gave up a two-run single to Greg Myers, but struck out Olmedo Saenz and got Miguel Tejada on a groundout to end it.

"My arm and side felt great," Percival said. "It was a matter of getting things back to full speed."

Garret Anderson hit a two-run double, and Adam Kennedy also knocked in two runs for the Angels, who won for just the third time in 11 games.

Jarrod Washburn (1-2) allowed three runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings for his first win since beating Cleveland on Aug. 19 of last season.

Anaheim center fielder Darin Erstad left in the third inning when he complained of grogginess after diving for a ball. Erstad hit his head several days ago while chasing down a ball.

He was taken to the hospital for tests.

Erstad struck out and grounded out in two at-bats before being replaced by Jeff DaVanon.

David Justice homered for Oakland, which snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Angels on Thursday but has won just three of nine.

A's starter Mike Fyhrie (0-1), recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to replace injured ace Mark Mulder, was making his first start of the season.

Fyhrie, who pitched 17 scoreless innings for the River Cats, was roughed up for six runs on seven hits in 4 2-3 innings.

It was his eighth major league start without a win. Fyhrie made seven starts for the Angels in 1999.

"I didn't really locate the ball as well as I like. There were a couple of pitches I was trying to throw in, and they came back over the plate," Fyhrie said. "That hurt me."

The Angels took a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Tim Salmon walked, went to third on Molina's single and scored on Kennedy's single. Kennedy scored on Brad Fullmer's base hit, and Anderson's double scored David Eckstein and Fullmer.

The A's cut it to 4-1 in the fourth on Justice's home run off Washburn.

Molina hit a two-run single in the fifth. Scott Spiezio had an RBI single, and Molina and Kennedy added RBI grounders in a three-run seventh.

Terrence Long's run-scoring double in the bottom half made it 9-2, and Carlos Pena added a sacrifice fly to center.

Oakland pulled to 9-5 in the ninth on an RBI double by Ramon Hernandez and Pena's run-scoring single.

Oakland's Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez missed his second straight game with a strained right hip flexor. He was injured Wednesday, making a throw from his backside.
Mulder, a 20-game winner for the A's last season, is on the disabled list with a strained left forearm.

Hatteberg snapped an 0-for-15 slump with a go-ahead single in the eighth inning as the Oakland Athletics squandered a six-run lead, then rallied to beat the Anaheim Angels 8-7 Saturday.

"He's putting a good swing on the ball, he's just in a streak where he couldn't buy a hit," A's manager Art Howe said. "He bought one at the right time today."

Miguel Tejada drove in three runs for the A's, who took a 6-0 lead in the third inning against Kevin Appier. Anaheim went ahead 7-6 with two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth, but Oakland surged back ahead in the eighth. Billy Koch notched his 4th save.
