Twins skipper Ron Gardenhire was rewarded with a 2-year contract extension that will keep him in Minnesota through the 2009 season.

In his 5 seasons as Twins manager,Gardenhire has wn 4 division titles and went to the ALCS in 2002.He is only the 3rd manager in Major League history to pilot his club to post-season berths in 4 of his first 5 years.

Since 2002,Gardenhire is the 4th winningest manager in baseball with 455 wins. That trails Joe Torre(497 wins),Tony LaRussa(470) and Bobby Cox(467).

Congrats on your well deserved extension.

Hey guys. I'm still alive, yes.

Anyhow, I don't like Gardy, but it's hard to argue with this move. He's done all they could have expected, and probably then some.

However, my personal opinion is that they won in spite of Gardy this year moreso than actually because of him.

Ithink they should have shown more confidence in him and signed him to a long term contract. You can not argue with his numbers.

Guess it would be worthy of a mention in this thread that Gardenhire was 2nd in the AL Coach of the Year voting...fits nicely with the 3 Twins in the top ten of the AL MVP vote and another with the Cy Young award
