I am so sad. my whole world has been turned upside down. I always said that I would just love to see the Tigers get the series, I wouldn't even care if they won. I was wrong. I am so terribly heart broken. I don't even know what to say to express how I feel. I feel like someone I have loved so very deeply has died, and maybe they have. Maybe my feelings are just. Maybe the Tigers just died. I have to go. I need to take a few days off and mourn my loss. I applogize for my absence, but I have to. See you all in a few days. It was still one hell of a memerable season. :sigh:

Hang in there, Jen. Don't forget, you were still rooting for the American League Champions all year long, and we can enjoy that long into next season. Our team is built to last, this is no one-year shot for us. I'd be surprised if we don't still have the best pitching staff in the league for 2007. Take your few days off, then come back and start wondering who we will bring in to shore up our lack of power-hitting, or whether Zumaya can surpass Jones for the closer's role.

This team hasn't had a winning record in 13 years. They dominated the best in the American league in the playoffs and they hit a very good team in the WS. They were rusty from not playing for a week. We should be celebrating one of the best seasons in Detroit sports history, not being upset over losing in the WS.

I'll tell you what Jen.Having watched my team miss the playoffs altogether,I would gladly trade places with you right now.

I would love to be in your shoes griping about what didn't go right in the World Series then sit here as an outsider.

Don't let this diminish what the Tigers accomplished this year.To go from 119 losses to an Al pennant in 3 short years is pretty impressive I might say.
So congratulations to the Tigers and thier fans on a truly remarkable season.

You guys and gals have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm not griping, I'm sad. We've come so far only to have it taken away in the end. reverse the roles eric and everybody else and you would see that it still hurts. This is the first time I have ever seen anything like this in my entire life. Sorry if I'm not taking it with as much grace as everybody would like me to

I understand Jen.I remember going through the same thing in '83(my 1st championship season) when the White Sox and Orioles were playing for the pennant and they went to the 10th inning scoreless, only to see the rug pulled out from under me on 1 swing of the bat(Tito F'n Landrum:Pissed: ) .Yes it was painful to see it end so abruptly, and I was inconsoleable for several days.I wanted Philadelphia to win so bad it was unreal.I thought that this would be my only chance to see my teamwin a championship.

But yeah Jen,I absolutely know what you're going through right now.

Tigress, just want to echo what Raco and Eric have touched on. I waited about twice your lifetime to see my Astros in the Series, and it sucked seeing them swept away, especially when all they needed was just one lousy single to have at least won one game and stretch the Series to five games. Said the same thing as you, that all I really wanted was for them to get there just once and I'd be happy. Yet after they lost, I was sad, grumpy, disappointed, pissed off, melancholy and about a zillion other emotions.

And after getting there, ditto on Eric's sentiments about being a bit embarrassed that the darn guys didn't even make it back to the dadgum playoffs this time.

It might not seem like much consolation right now, but there was an immense pride coming into this season being able to at least say we were the defending National League champions. First and only time I've ever been able to say that. So like Raco said, you will eventually find that a groovy sort of feeling.

Chin up, young lady. Not a damn thing for you to be disappointed about with the 2006 Detroit Tigers. Confounded the 'experts' all year, had to first get past last year's champs from Chicago, then the Yankees and Athletics, two more storied franchises from the AL, in the playoffs. Enjoy what was a magical ride.

I'm not telling you how to feel babe, trust me i've been sick to my stomach since game 3. But you can't let it get to you that badly. I was depressed for a week when the Pistons lost in Game 7 to the Spurs, 2 years ago, and i promised myself i wouldn't let a team do that again to myself.

This team, I can promise you, made Al Kaline proud, and that's a good thing.

Everybody here is right in what they are conveying to you...maybe me saying anything might just add salt to the wounds, but I hate to think that's the case. I said from the beginning that I am a huge baseball fan and have been all my life. I am of course a Cardinal fan, but I am to a large degree a baseball fan in general. When the Cardinals have not gone to the series or got beat out at any stage that is not where the season ended for me. Yes, I love this team, the Cardinals, but I love the game and that is bigger than any one team IMO.

Passion for your team is never forsaken, it means you love the game...just don't forget the game is alot like life in general...it's always changing and there is always hope! "There is always next year", sounds clamy but it's oh so true. Your tigers did not get beat by a better team, they got beat by a team that somehow seemed destined to win at this particular moment.

The great thing about the Tigers is that young pitching staff is only going to get better. Everybody saw what they were capable of this year, I am very sure that they will be back in the playoffs again with a little luck next year.

I know how you feel, I felt it in 85, 87 & 04. You never get to point that it does not hurt, unless you just lose faith and give up on the team you love. Cry, but don't lose the faith, your team will be back and their magical October still awaits!

I'm back now. I just needed a couple days of not thinking about baseball - of course it didn't happen, but I tried :). I was devistated, we've never been that close before (in my life time) and it looked as though it was being stolen away from us. But looking back on world series in the past few years, I am seeing a pattern. Boston got taken out in 2004 when everybody thought it was thier year, they came back in 2005 and took the world by storm. Cards got swept in 2005 by the BoSox, came back to win it this year. I'm a firm believer that 'everything happens in 3's' especially when it comes to baseball. So we're next :) 2007 is the year of the Tiger - we're gonna go get 'em and we're gonna turn some heads doing it. And now that Fox has had some Tigers playoff experience, maybe next year they'll get the names of the guys right ;)

Thank you everyone for your help :) The initial grief is gone, and I'm now celerating a hell of a season :)

I'm afraid you are confused on your history. Chicago won in 05. The Red Sox won in 04. The Marlins won in 03.:)

I'm so glad you are back with a positive attitude Jen. It was a disappointing end to a great season, but we finally have a winning team again. It uplifted this city and it's fans. Next year we have something wonderful to look forward to.

Jen, and everyone else, at one point this afternoon I stopped at my desk at thought "... just three more wins". It's November 14th and I'm still thinking about it. Clearly, I'm not over losing the WS. Oh, I'm sleeping and all, but I don't care what anybody says, you just never know how many chances you get to win a championship.

Seems to me I remember one of the 1975 Red Sox (Fred Lynn or Carlton Fisk, maybe?) talk about losing that epic World Series. That Sox team was loaded with quality young players -- Lynn, Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, Rick Burleson, Fisk -- and they were disappointed but figured they would just win the next time. Of course, the next time they made the WS was 11 years later and who was left? I think only Rice and Evans (someone from The Nation can correct me on that). They didn't win then, either. It took almost thirty more years to finally finish off the curse.

The counter argument, of course, is all of our young pitchers. The '75 Sox didn't have these kinds of kid hurlers. True, but the Cubs of Wood, Prior and Zambrano looked like a potential force for years, but Wood and Prior have spent more time at the doctor's office than in the post-season.

Now, I don't mean to go all negative here, because I'm actually pretty optimistic about '07 (although, I still favor a move or two more). I just use these scenarios to point out that you just never know. As others have pointed out, you can go to the Series one year and not make the playoffs the next. Each chance to win the Series is special and to be so close and lose is just disappointing. Even all these weeks later.

I know. I know. It was fun while it lasted. It's better to be AL Champs than lose 119 games. We've seen both here and obviously one is clearly better. However, I've never thought "just getting there was enough". Oh, it's fun. But, it's not enough.
