I apologize in advance to all who may be offended to see football talk in the baseball section and to management here, who may have to move this thread. However, most Lions' fans might stop by the Tigers' forum before the dugout and I can't get into our football boards, so I am putting my thoughts here.

I have no problem with the Joey Harrington pick. I would have preferred Roy Williams, but Harrington is still a need imo. McMahon has only proved he's mobile. Winning football games is another matter. Harrington played better football, at a higher level, in college than McMahon did and won plenty. I'm not going to pretend to know if he will be a great pro, but I am firmly on his bandwagon until given a reason not to be. (No, I have not bought a Harrington jersey, yet.)

The rest of their draft I give a B minus. I like Edwards, but worry about the 3-7 round choices. Not that many make it, but I like what some other teams did better in those late rounds. I do like Luke Staley, the RB from BYU, though. He might fit in very nicely in the Lions version of the West Coast offense.

Overall my biggest complaint about this year's draft is Matt Millen. He's either a liar or an idiot and while I lean towards the former, I haven't ruled out the latter. He didn't want Harrington, his coach probably did. The owner got the deciding vote and Millen is now trying to tell us that Harrington will open the season as the number three QB? Ain't going to happen, Matt. You just went 2-14 and you use your third overall pick to draft a third string QB? Something tells me that wouldn't be very smart. If Harrington does end up carrying a clipboard in Week One, then he isn't very smart. He just wasted the third pick in the entire draft.

Millen's performance may go down as the low point of this year's draft. It was terrible. However, maybe the players will make him look better come fall.
