ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- The Colorado Rockies put right-hander Jose Jimenez on the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Brooks Kieschnick to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday.

Jimenez, who has a sore right shoulder, is 4-1 with a 4.14 ERA in 37 relief appearances this season. The move is retroactive to July 8.

Kieschnick, hitless in his last 23 at-bats, was demoted to make room for outfielder Kim Bartee, acquired in a trade with the Anaheim Angels on Friday night. Kieschnick hit .238 with three homers and nine RBIs in 35 games for the Rockies this season.

Bartee started in left field for the Rockies on Saturday against the Texas Rangers.

Colorado played with a 24-man roster on Saturday. The team said another player would be added before Sunday's game in Oakland.

This could only happen to the Rockies. How does a team lose for almost one month straight and then have its closer go down with a sore shoulder? Ordinarily, losing a closer can be a killer, but the Rockies haven't had many ninth-inning leads. Jimenez has had two save chances since June 17, and blew one.

LHP Horatio Estrada was activated from the DL, bringing the roster back up to 25 players.
