ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Mark McGwire hit his 564th home run, passing Reggie Jackson on Saturday for sixth place on the career list.
McGwire homered for the second time in three days, hitting a 1-1 fastball from Detroit's Jose Lima over the left field wall. The towering drive was measured at 374 feet.
Harmon Killebrew is fifth on the career list with 573 homers.
McGwire entered the game in a 3-for-45 slump and has only 10 homers, but has connected twice in the last three games for the St. Louis Cardinals. He became only the third player to hit 200 homers in both leagues when he connected Thursday night against Jeff Weaver.
Eight of McGwire's homers have come at Busch Stadium, and nine of the 10 have come against right-handers.
