For about $3 million, pending his physical. This deal sums up a typical offseason for the team. Sign a bunch of (pick up to three) old/injury-plagued/terrible players and hope they have career years. Ortiz has a career record of 79-76 and a career ERA of 4.85. After arbitration numbers were released, and the Twins weren't really close with any of the players, I expected TR to hold on to his cash. Instead, he blows it on this guy. It isn't even a low risk/high reward move, because if you spend 3 million here, 2.5 million there, a few $500,000 deals and you've racked up enough money to sign an actual decent player.

This guy is awful. He pitched for the Reds in 2005. He had an ERA in the mid 5.0 range, and gave up a lot of HRs. What made it worse was that after a few bad outings he would pitch rally good and you would think he was coming out of a slump. The next game reality dropped right on your head again.
