The Tigers swept their first series in their last 43 with the victory over Twins. Three good pitching performances in a row. Redman followed the lead of Greisinger and Cornejo and only yielded one run in seven innings. The bullpen made this contest interesting, as Paniagua gave up a two run homer to Koskie in the eighth and the Twins went on to tie the game.

Higginson won the game in the ninth on a single that scored Magee. Pierzynski (sp?) dropped the ball or else Magee would have been out. The Tigers went crazy after the win.

As a side note, Matt Anderson didn't pitch today even though the Tigers were in a tight game late. Speculation is either Anderson is hurt or about to get dealt. I'll lean towards to former.

Brooms for everyone.

Matt Anderson pitched a full 2 innings on friday and picked up the win in the 10th inning. I'm guessing he wasn't available saturday and maybe even sunday.

Good point. I'd like to think your closer could pitch three innings in three days, though.

Anderson is hurt. Tightness in his throwing shoulder. I guess the original injury occurred in Spring Training. I do not believe he's been placed on the DL.

Well, thanks to the Mets and the Expos, the Tigers aren't the worst team in baseball anymore. The Brewers are.

On the Mets' behalf, you're welcome. ;)

Julie, thanks for the assist, Detroit needs all the help it can get. However, give the Tigers a little love. Sure the Mets and Expos helped, as did the Brew Crew, but Detroit did win three straight games for the first time since 1987.

Three straight games or a series sweep? I'd find it amazing any team can go 15 years without winning three in a row.

Trots, I love my Mets, but I have Tiger stripes in my blood. My father is from Saginaw (graduated from HS in East Lansing in 1947) and used to hitchhike to games in the late 40s and early 50s. He's still loyal to them, all these years later, even though he was hooked by the Mets in 1962.

As an aside, are you serious? The Tigers haven't won 3 games in a row in 15 years????? That's downright scary. :bigeyecry

No, gang, I was only joking about the last Tigers' series sweep.

Julie, Tigers, Mets and, if I remember correctly, aren't you an Islander fan, as well? Maybe it's just a blue and orange thing?
