Modell's is great. I was just there a couple of weeks ago. Fabulous jerseys and stuff. I almost bought one of those warm-up jackets which was waaaaay cheaper than through MLB... actually, it was on sale, and I think it was on sale because it was last year's model... but I didn't care.
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE PLAYING SOFTBALL!!!!! THAT IS SO COOL!!!! YOU WILL ROCK, GIRL!!!

well, ever since i came back from Cancun.....i've been on a mission..... to REMAIN as active as i was when i was down there....i just hate that nyc can be so damn intense that you get caught up in the work-stress and survival-mode that you don't make time to have FUN and PLAY.......

next weekend i'm going KAYAKING AROUND MANHATTAN!! :jump: i can't wait!!! it's gonna be so freakin fun!!! (Chelsea Piers has a kayaking program)
anyway, the other day, i was saying to my friend Tracy at work.... "i need to join a softball team...." and she replied "OMIGOD!!!!!! WE NEED WOMEN ON OUR TEAM!!! YOU'RE ON!!!! GAME STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!"
and that was that!! :uhoh:
(i'm freakin out!!) :nut:

I bought a replica Islanders jersey (no name) at the Modell's on 42nd/Vanderbilt, and it was vastly cheaper than at the Coliseum. It was the only Islanders product in the entire store. And there was no real excuse either. They couldn't say "it's just New York City teams" because there was Devils stuff all over the place, but nothing for the Islanders.
HAH! The boys in blue and orange will have the last laugh! :eviltongu

Yes I did! And I had never done it before! Our team played two years in a row! It was a blast. And they were very kind and we had alot of fun, and they put me in right field. Wait. I think the first game I was in center, but they moved me up when this girl came up to bat, and I caught a slow roller up the middle and threw it to second base.... and the runner that came from first was out. Hitting wise, I kind of was okay, but I listened to stuff the guys were telling me and just sort of did it. (I take direction well. )
So, just relax and have fun. Look at all the other stuff you've played...... you'll be fine!!!

if it were tackle-softball, i'd be fine!:ohno:
but shoot i gotta be all coordinated and sh*t..... :pout:
:dancin: (please God don't let me look like this guy)
thank God i've been to the batting cages so i'm not completely green:bigsquare
i'm glad to hear you had fun!! that makes me feel better!! how come you're not playing in a league now??? (apparently there are a ton of leagues in ny.....who knew??)

"Tackle softball"
You can be coordinated!!! It's just timing! And, like you said, you have been to the batting cages, so you're way ahead of the game.... (at least way ahead of my game  )
I would love to be playing now, but it depends on the company you're working for. If they decide to field a team, they pay a fee and get on the schedules, and stuff. The place where I'm working now would have a terrific team, actually.... a bunch of jocks!!! I guess they're too into their work to even think of doing something like that.:ohno:

Cyn, keep your right elbow up and swing level....This is my advise to you....
BTW, I changed my stance a little bit in the batters box and I am hitting the hell out of the ball....I had my best season last season as I was switched from leadoff to the #2 spot and felt very comfortable with it...But yesterday at practice the coach said he was probably going to put me back at the leadoff spot again:ohno:
Anyways, just out there and have fun Cyn and dont put oo much pressure on yourself...You have gone to the batting cages before so I'm sure you can hit and will do fine....
What position are you going to play???

Softball, how fun......We (us Recreation guys) put a team in our Mens Softball League (not really fair, almost our whole team has played baseball at least 4 years in high school and then most of the guys played college ball to some extent, we are really good) , so far we are 8-1 (damn loss only scored 8 runs what can you expect).....I haven't gotten my swing fixed yet, I just want to swing for the fences every at bat, I popped up to left tonight and cussed all the way to first and was mumbling back to the dugout when someone told me I put the run on the board that allowed the game to end cause we were up by 10 so we won, I was like yeah I meant to do that :hmm: !!!!
So Right Field huh Cyn, trust me that's where the really bad players get put (that's where I play on our team, I am the worst player we got, scary I tell ya)...Just kidding, you will do fine, you have the competitiveness to do well......Remember drive the ball, don't get under it, don't drop your back shoulder and swing straight through...hitting line drives all day long will get you on in softball....

thanks Dustin and James....you guys are my heroes:love:
i'm really frustrated with my swing.....:pout: i keep grounding out... i ground to the pitcher or to short most of the time:angry: i've never played softball before and i know i'm not swinging properly (i know it's all mechanics and timing, right?) .....i know i'm not a total clueless girl ( :hmm: ) cuz i've played other sports, but man this is so damn frustrating..... i hate sucking at anything!!!:crying2: i just hope i can get more comfortable at the plate and get the feel of it all...... i don't wanna be a Rey or a Jay!!:uhoh: :crying2: all the guys on my team are really good, they've played forever and hit homeruns like nothin' :hmm: luckily, the other 2 women on the team are not that spectacular (they sorta play like girls, though they have more experience than me) .....man, i wish i played little league when i was a kid...i think i'd be a pretty decent player if i had more experience..... you're right dustin, i am EXTREMELY competitive and i have to do well and like to WIN....:2guns:
so i played RIGHT FIELD and i'm relieved to say i didn't totally suck..... bobbled the ball once and made 2 decent plays after that..... i guess the trick is not to be afraid of the ball...... i think i can fix this with more practice....... i think i'll carry my mitt around and make everyone play catch with me, even if they're strangers walking down the street..........:pimp:
unless you guys have some free time later.......??
