View Full Version : Brewers, Hall agree on four-year deal
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers teammates Bill Hall and Geoff Jenkins were sitting down to a post-workout lunch in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Monday. Midway through his barbecue sandwich, Hall committed to a long-term contract that will keep the infielder-turned-outfielder in a Brewers uniform at least four more years.
"And Jenkins still paid for lunch," Hall said with a laugh.
Next time, it might be Hall's turn to pick up the tab. Coming off a breakthrough season in which he was named club MVP, Hall avoided a potential arbitration hearing by agreeing to a deal that guarantees $24 million over the next four seasons. The Brewers also hold a $9.25 million option for a fifth season in 2011.

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers today signed INF/OF Bill Hall to a four-year contract through 2010 with a club option for 2011. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin. By agreeing to terms, Hall avoided arbitration. He had been the last Brewers player eligible for arbitration.
"We are pleased to know that Billy has made this commitment to the Brewers organization and to the fans," said Melvin. "His mentality for accepting the team concept, his work ethic to get better every year and his improving performance gave us the confidence needed in committing to this multi-year contract. Billy has worked hard to deserve this kind of contract and we are looking forward to having him lead our club to the next level. Ownership has again understood what it takes for us to become a winning type franchise and fully supports this commitment to Billy."

Bill Hall had a breakthrough season at shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers last year ... and it's earned him a four-year deal to likely play center for the team starting this season.
The Brewers and Hall have reached agreement on a four-year, $24 million deal, FOXSports.com has learned.
Hall, 27, is expected to move from shortstop to center field this season. He requested $4.125 million in salary arbitration and the Brewers offered him $3 million.
Hall will receive $3.5 million in 2007, then $4.8 million, $6.8 million and $8.4 million in the next three seasons. The club has a $9.25 million option for a fifth year, but can also buy out the deal for $500,000.
If the Brewers pick up Hall's option, the deal will cover the first two years he would be eligible for free agency.

The Milwaukee Brewers tied up a key piece to their future today, signing Bill Hall to a four-year contract with a club option for 2011.
Terms of the deal were not announced but the Journal Sentinel learned it is worth $24 million in guaranteed money, including a $500,000 buyout of the option.
Hall gets a salary of $3 million this year, plus a $500,000 signing bonus. His salary for 2008 is $4.8 million, followed by $6.8 million in 2009 and $8.4 million in 2010. The club option for 2011 is $9.25 million, bringing the full value of the contract to $32.75 million.

Robert speculated that Hall could be worth about $11 million per season in a long-term deal…this deal, assuming that the option is exercised, would total $32.75 million over 5 years, or $6.55 million per year. No word if incentive clauses were included.
Overall, I think the Brewers’ made out great on this deal…of course, they are taking on the risk that Hall will improve and not get injured, something that has bitten them in the past…the best part, however, is that Hall will be a Brewer for the next four years.

This is a great day.
This may, in fact, be the happiest day of my Brewer fandom. (Not that there's been a lot of competition in the last few years.)
Bill Hall will be a Brewer through 2010, and probably through 2011!

Hall took over at shortstop last season when starter J.J. Hardy injured an ankle and finished with a .270 batting average in a career-high 148 games. He compiled 78 extra-base hits and 297 total bases, also club highs.
Juan Gonzalez's comeback. Two-time AL MVP Juan Gonzalez returned to the Puerto Rican winter league this off-season in hopes of landing a contract with a major-league team.
