I see the mets winning 2 of those 3 games.

With Randy Johnson winning for the DBacks in game 2.

I agree about the Mets being able to take 2, but I don't know if I can say with certainty that the loss will come against Johnson.

Based on past experience, I'd say we have a shot against Johnson:

Vaughn = .333
Valentin = .290
McEwing= .286
Alfonzo = .429
Piazza = .385
Payton = .400

These are all guys who have a minimum of 10 at-bats vs The Big Unit.

Then there's Stottlemyre. Except for Rey Ordonez, every single Met (7 of them) who's had more than 10 ABs against him has hit him pretty well (especially Valentin, with a .414 avg). But he's still coming back from his injuries, so I think he can be beat. Besides Valentin, I bet Mark Johnson will be in the game too. He's hit .385 against him in 13 ABs.

Helling is someone that certain Mets have done well against. Only 4 Mets have more than 10 ABs against him, so he's pretty much an unknown as far as most of the team is concerned. And the Mets don't always do well against the unknown.

Alomar = .400
Valentin = .312
Vaughn = .286
Cedeno = .600

The Mets have hit all these guys, so we have a shot against all of them.

So, let's look at the flip side.

Al's done decently against all the D'backs who have more than 10 ABs against him, except Mark Grace.

As for Trax, he's not done great against individual D'backs. IMO, that's the reason we could lose the second game, notbecause of Johnson.

The Stottlemyre/Estes game is, IMO, a tossup. Estes has gotten hammered by the D'backs, just as Stottlemyre has gotten hammered by individual Mets. I think that game could be a battle of the bullpens.

In other words, this is going to be an interesting series.

Good News,

I just read on MLB.com that Randy Johnson will not be pitching on Wednesday.

Well Al has now beaten every single major-league team. I believe he's the only pitcher currently active who can say this.

Kewl! :biggrin:

Randy Johnson isn't going to pitch tonight -- Stottlemyre will pitch against Trax, and we'll see Miguel Batista pitch against Shawn Estes on Thursday.

Batista is AWFUL. His career ERA is 4.78, including this year's 6.06. Last year, he had a career-low ERA of 3.36, but it doesn't seem as if he can hang on to this. The last time he had an ERA below 4, he went back up to 4.88 the following year. Last year was far and away the best season he's ever had and, from what he's done so far this season, he seems to be going back to his usual ways. We can only hope...

Actually Julie, its funny you bring that up about Al beating every team...That was the Aflac trivia question last night...

But the answers were Randy Johnson, Ken Hill, Hideo Nomo, Kevin Brown and Al Leiter....Funny thing is that Leiter hadn't beaten the D-Backs yet although he was on his way to winning....
