The Mets cut six players: Philip Humber, Jason Vargas, Ruben Sierra, Carlos Gomez, Jose A. Reyes and Marcos Carvajal.
Sierra is undecided between retirement and accepting an assignment to the New Orleans Zephyrs, he said through Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz.

PORT ST. LUCIE - Mike Carp introduced himself to Damion Easley during an informal workout even before Mets position players reported, eager to share the news that they both attended Lakewood High School in Southern California.
"He was saying how he had a couple of records," Carp recalled. "I was like, 'Uhhhh, not anymore.'"

Mets have a bona fide first base prospect in Mike Carp.
