Mulder scheduled to pitch simulated game Sunday

NEW YORK - A change of scenery isn't going to help Mark Mulder's tight left forearm. But the A's didn't want the cool, wet weather they are experiencing on this trip to make it worse.
Manager Art Howe said Wednesday that Mulder will not come off the disabled list to start this weekend in Chicago but will pitch a simulated game Sunday at the A's training complex in Phoenix.
It will be the fourth start Mulder has missed since exiting after four innings April 11 at Texas because he couldn't get his arm loose. Mulder made 75 pitches Sunday in a five-inning simulation, but tightness below his elbow prevented him from throwing at full velocity.
``There's always concern,'' Howe said. ``He hasn't said, `I feel great.' If he had, he'd be slotted in already. It's a matter of how he feels. The fact that he didn't really turn it loose on Sunday is a factor we have to consider.''
Mike Fyhrie, who allowed one run and four hits in seven innings Saturday in a 16-1 victory over the White Sox, will make his third start in place of Mulder.
