Who is your All-Time Favorite Baseball Player and why? The only catch to this question is you had to be alive to see him play :D
Mine is Roger Clemens, because of his work ethic, intensity and his no fear attitude.

I think for now it would have to be Ichiro...I don't get to see him hit often, but I love his swing, he's such a complete player...he has the ability to hit homers (that's what they used to say anyway), bunt, great fielder, steals bases...can't get much better than that.
Course i'm young, so I imagine there will be another player that will come along

Mariano Rivera.
While I admire his success and class, what makes him my favorite player is the way he deals with failure. It takes incredible optimism and confidence to be a closer, and I've never seen anyone who encapsulates those qualities better than Mariano Rivera.

You sir have the best reasoning I have ever heard for liking Rivera. I dont how many people like him just because he is one of the best closers of all time, people dont stop to think how awesome he is mentally.

My favorite has always been Johnny Bench. He could take over a game many different ways. He could call a great game. He made a mediocre pitching staff great. He was hard to steal on, and he was a machine hitting the ball. He hit 2 HR in the first game I ever saw, and has been my favorite ever since.

My all time favorite player is Willie Mays, although I'm not positive if I ever saw him in person or not. I wasn't paying much attention to baseball when I went on those camp trips to Shea, but it's possible.
The reason I like him is because he could do it all. An incredible player with an incredible work ethic and an all around good guy.
My favorite player that I know for sure I did see play in person would probably be a tie between Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter. They were both good in the clutch situations and highly motivating to their teammates.
My future all time favorite player will probably be David Wright, once he fully matures baseball-wise. Talent, team player, motivator, blah blah blah, plus his charity work.

Joe Torre because he was a gritty tough catcher and he was 1971 MVP for St. Louis as a third baseman.

That's right, I'm old enough to remember seeing him play. At that age I wasn't glued to the TV watching baseball, but I saw enough of his games to remember that he lived up to his nickname, "The Human Vacuum Cleaner". He was a working man's type of ballplayer. If I was to try to compare him to one of today's third basemen I really don't know if I could. He was so unique.

Brooks Robinson was one player I really wish I was alive to see play. I have seen some clips of him, but never a full game. From what I have seen he really was amazing

O geeze, A-Rod most defintly. It looks like everyones picking earlier baseball players but Alex is pretty much leading the Yankees right now, Jeter's 20mil a year ass hasnt shown much latley. they had a bad start but they are kind of working their way up i would say.
anyways A-Rod it is. i also like marcus giles a lot but i'd like him better if he was still with the braves.

I have to go with Ozzie Smith. I grew up a Cardinals fan and absolutely loved watching him play shortstop. What an electrifying player!

I have 2-
Jeter, because he is totally awesome and because I love his spirit and seems to come out with something when the Yanks need him.
Piazza- Because he signed my cap outside spring training camp.

As a Yankee fan, I've got to go with The Hammer, Mariano Rivera. With his humility and amazing talent, he is easily the best reliever of all time.
But a close second is Ichiro Suzuki. I just love the old school way he plays baseball. Reminds me of Ty Cobb, only Ichiro isn't a raving lunatic :)

I'm a bit bias but my favorite of all time is Cal Ripken, easily 1 of the best examples of what it means to show up for work on a day in & day out basis. And not a bad player either.

Based on your user name, I would have been very surprised if you came up with any different answer!
I love Cal. :)

older: george brett because he was just a all around player
newer: ichiro ive liked him the first time he came into the MLB because all he trys to do is get a hit and thats what we need to do now. we don't have to prove our selves and get a home run you just need to get on base!

I would definitely say Jason Varitek, because since ive been a Red Sox fan, hes been the one who stuck around, my other favorites like Damon, Trot, Derek Lowe, and Nomar all left, but Varitek is a true Red Sock
