View Full Version : Who would you drop?

If you could drop ONE....... and only ONE player from the starting 9 of your favorite team who would it be and why?
For me it would be J.D. Drew, I hated the day Boston signed him and STILL wish he was gone. He is damaged goods no matter which way you turn it, basically Boston paid $70 million for a dying horse whose hooves are going to be glue very soon. He has a weak patella tendon which causes him to have constant knee pain, not to mention a really bad lower back and a shoulder that is the equivalent of swiss cheese. The only up side to him is he has a DECENT glove, but even that is on its way out because of his health, the man cant stay healthy. Even when he is on the field he is subpar and always has been. He only had 2 (01-04) and really good seasons, but other than that..........well he was and still is equal to a pine rider (IMO).
There is no way a guy who has a lifetime batting average well below 300 and and OBP below 400 should be getting paid $70m. I would love to see Boston DO SOMETHING with him, but NO ONE is going to pickup that salary for someone of his caliber.

Johnny Damon :(
I can see why 100%...........I think you feel the same way about Damon as I do about Drew.
Honestly I was SUPER happy when Boston did not resign him..............I think I was the only one, but yet I was happy when they moved Nomar as well, so I guess I'm just an odd Sox fan. Funny thing is.......I was sad when they moved Mo Vaughn

I wasn't happy with the Yanks signing him. I thought the first 2 years would be okay, but years 3 and 4 looked to be dead-weight years. Unfortunately...I was probably right :(

Probably..............umm nope you WERE RIGHT. He was damaged good when you guys got him and that is the way he is going to stay, the other outfielder that I see going the same way is Andruw Jones, and I think it is because of how hard they play defense, but who knows what the real reason is.

This is pretty easy for me. I would get rid of Hatteberg. That way they could move Joey Votto in the big leagues. He would be a great upgrade offensively and defensively.

I would have to say Giambi. He's injury prone, can't hit for average, can only dh, and makes way too much money. I love the guy and really respect him for everything with the steroids but he is killing me right now.

And he is on his way back :)
I understand what you mean, he really is turning into a rather useless player at this point in his career

ya we will see how he does. he sounded really pumped to be back which could mean a time of him tearing up that right porch in right but he isn't much for the clutch anymore and we are sore at first and have too many outfielders. if the guy could just field a little.

Yeah fielding def is not his strength, but as you said him coming back now might be a good thing, seeing how the Yanks really dont have a first baseman persay. I say kick Damon to the curb and go get Kotchman................he is cheaper than Teixiera and decent at defense.

Damon is a good top of the order guy and has won a world series. He also knows all about the red sox-yanks rivalry. The experience is worth whatever defense or lack there of he brings. His average will come up he is a career .290 hitter.

Only problem is...........his health, and that was one of bigger reasons why Boston didnt want to give him the money. Dont forget Posada, Jeter, Torre, Mussina, Rivera and I think Cairo all of WS rings.................hell MOST of the Yanks have rings :)
I say bring Bernie back

A-Rod doesnt have a ring yet. about the only thing he is missing at this point. He will get his in a Yanks uniform soon though.

As a die-Hard Sox fan, but more so baseball fan I really would not be surprised if they did win the series. I'm not sure if it will happen, but there would be no surprise here if it did happen, they are just to good not to make a run.

I agree and can appreciate your opinion there. See I'm a diehard Yanks fan but I can appreciate the talent Boston has. They are an awesome team and it would be fun if they were in the NL cause there would be several classic world series between the two teams. I do hate Curt Schilling though, he is the definition of idiot.

Well I dont hate Curt, but I have to say the man needs to keep his thoughts/opinions to himself until his career is over, when he is done speak all you want....until then SHUT UP. I feel that way about ALL players no matter how good or bad you are.
See Yanks and Sox fans can be civil, contrary to what many want to believe.
This is why I like this forum I have not seen team bashing yet, because it seems like MOST.............not all but MOST of the people on here have their favorite teams, but are baseball fans just as much and are fairly mature. I respect all teams no matter what.............hell I spend $200 a year for the baseball package through Charter, just so I can watch ALL games...............not mention I have 4 Tivo's to record certain games. I LOVE BASEBALL.
I'm surprised no Yanks fans have said Bobby yet...........that really does surprise me

I completely agree.
Abreu is so clutch and works pitchers like no one in the majors. I also like the thought of him with that short right porch and the Yanks needing a big hit. He only has one year left which helps.

Well the Yanks have a team option for 2008, which they probably won't take, so Abreu will most likely become a FA after this season. If he was locked up for 2 more seasons like Damon is, he'd be a serious contender for Player Who Needs To Go. But 2-3 more months of Abreu-afraid-of-the-wall baseball is nothing compared to 14-15 months of Johnny Damon-2-cutoff-men-to-homeplate baseball :(

I have to agree with you on the afraid of the wall part. It really does seem like he does not want to hit the wall. Damon was a mistake from the day he signed his contract with the Yanks.

Although Trot Nixon isn't doing any better than Drew this season, I suppose I'd drop him despite my belief that his future with the Red Sox will show vast improvement. Every other player on the Red Sox is way too exceptional in their own right to remove, except perhaps Julio Lugo, but he's one of my favorite players.
