Who do you FEEL/THINK is the best defensive player of all-time? Now I'm not necessarily taking stats persay into account, more of your personal feelings.

For me I would have to say its a tie between Omar Vizquel and Ozzie Smith. They are just down right amazing with the glove.

Now I know statistically they may not be the best, but as I said above this is more of a personal feeling question more than a technical one.

Robbie Alomar
Ozzie Smith
Roberto Clemente
Al Kaline
Ken Griffey Jr.
Willie Mays

I've always liked Clemente and Griffey Jr's aggressive defensive in the outfield.

How about Johnny Bench? I know you don't necessarily think about catchers being great defensive players, but he revolutionized the position. After Johnny bench, catchers' equipment were no longer the "tools of ignorance", as he brought a strategic influence to the game that made younger players actually want to be catchers, as well as 10 Gold Gloves. Also, tucking his throwing arm safely behind him has probably saved many players serious injuries to their hands in subsequent years....

Just a thought.

However, my automatic response is Willie Mays...but somebody already said that, and I wanted to be unique.

Ozzie Smith, Robbie Alomar, and Johnny Bench all have my votes. They were amazing over their careers.
