Who do you feel is the most overrated player in baseball?
I know someone is going to say Jeter, and I can agree to disagree with that opinion, but to me the most overrated player in baseball right now is Barry Zito. The man has a lifetime ERA of almost 4, not to mention his last really good season was 5 years ago back in 2002. Since then he has barely stayed above 500 for the most part and he averages close to 100 walks a season. Why the Gaints are paying him $126 million is beyond me. His only real dominating pitch is his curve, but for the past few years that seems to be a trouble spot for him, because he has been having some issues throwing it for strikes like he used to.
If you were to rank the top 10 pitchers in baseball by stats or personal opinion I can't imagine him being within those ranks..............top 20 MAYBE

I agree with Zito, but I feel the need to add the most overrated short guy in the history of sports, David Eckstein.

I can see your point on that one, the only thing I can really give to little Eck is that he is a fighter. He kind of reminds me a pitbull, small but has alot of fight in him.
I agree he is pretty overrated.

He's a fighter...with a career OPS+ only 12 points higher than Miguel Cairo :)

All right, my first REAL post. I thought I'd get in on this, and say without thinking too entirely hard that I consider Hideki Matsui to be a pretty overrated player. I can certainly understand the hype surrounding him...a Japanese position player with power travels to the states to play for the New York Friggin' Yankees. There's a lot of media blitz there. But look at the realities: The guy can't play defense...he's as slow as a snail...His career batting average is good, but not enough to warrant such accolades as he gets...And for a guy who's supposed to be a power hitter, he's only averaged a slightly respectable mark of around 20 homers a season since coming to the states. I've got a chance to watch him play in New York quite a bit, and I'll tell you...he's not a difficult out.
Good call on Zito, though...I like that choice.

I would also like to throw Scott Podsednik's name into the mix for overrated players. It's amazing how so many people think such a weak-hitting player is so valuable.

REALLY  wow I must have been under a rock at that time.
All Pods has is fast moving legs and that is about it, but being able to run wont do you much good if you cant get on base.
Yeah I have to agree Pods..............well you already said it so I dont have to say it again :D
