Here it is a week into August and the Rockies are just 4 out of first. Just 3 if the D Backs lose tonight.
Rockies thumped the Brewers 19-4 today in a early game.

And here it is a few days later and The Rox are 5 out and tied with the hated Dodgers.

Rockies are just 2 out of the wild card after yesterdays win.
In a short 2 weeks the Rockies have placed Rodrigo Lopez, Jason Hirsh and Jeff Baker on the DL. Helton hasn't played since August 8th because of back spasms and for today's game the Rockies signed some pitcher out of a Korean league. Man the Monforts are cheap when it comes to picking up a SP.

LOL@ Lou Piniella
Men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in a 3-3 game and he walks Matsui to get to Tulo who at the time was 13 for 27 in this home stand and just had homered his last at bat.
Result> 2 run double that missed being a grand slam by 3ft.
6-3 Rox with 2 outs to go.
Go Rockies!

Phil - Given the uncertainty in the Rockies' final two rotation spots, everyone that lands on waivers or is released immediately surfaces as a candidate. However, David Wells is not on the Rockies' radar. Manager Clint Hurdle said that Wells' struggles in Petco Park, one of baseball's most friendly for pitchers, made it unlikely he could help Colorado. That doesn't mean they aren't looking. There are growing indications that the Rockies are tracking Baltimore's Steve Trachsel as they consider trade options.
Internal candidates who could soon provide rotation help include Triple-A phenom Franklin Morales, who starts Monday for Colorado Springs, and Elmer Dessens, scheduled to start Wednesday for the Sky Sox and throw 75 pitches.

Trachel ugh! I'd rather see the Rockies give Morales or Dessens a shot at #5.

I would stay as far away from Dessens as they can. He used to pitch for the Reds and sucked.

Yeah, he sucked big time time for the Brewers this year to, had a 6.60era in 15 inninigs.
According to the Denver Post it looks like Morales has the inside track for the next start at the 5 spot.
Triple-A prospect Franklin Morales had the inside track to fill the fifth spot Saturday against the Dodgers, but struggled Monday night for Colorado Springs. That explains why the Rockies remain interested in Baltimore's Steve Trachsel and Toronto's Josh Towers. Still, with Morales' 97 mph fastball from the left side, the Rockies could do a lot worse.
Bad news is he just got hammered his last start for the Sky Sox. Morales is like Ubaldo Jimenez, they have above average stuff when they can get it over the plate. Of course that holds true for a lot of the kids making the jump to the majors.
