So what is next for the Pirates? We are hearing the same old diatribe so far. Strong core nucleus, couple pieces needed, strong August shows what can happen, blah, blah, blah. Will this change in management really help? Are we Pirate fans kidding ourselves when we think it has to get better some time? The latest says that the outfield corners are set with Bay and Nady. Why is that? A bad as this team has been, why is anyone guaranteed? Did anyone notice that we were winning with Pierce and Morgan in the lineup daily and as soon as Bay and Nady came back we began to lose again? I will stop for now, but I could go on. Well, I can' stop quite yet. Some rumors have Matt Clement wanting to come to Pittsburgh as his contract is up and he is healthy again (why did the Sox not activate him even for rehab). He could be had cheap so why not get some insurance. Other than Gorzo, Snell and Malholm, who impressed enough to get a promised spot in the rotation? And Malholm was just coming around and pitching well when he got hurt. Clement would be cheaper than Morris (though I think they are around the same age) and could possibly be used converted to the pen if he did not make the rotation. Other than possibly Bullington, I do not see any of e other pitchers doing much. It seems Burnett is written off. VanBenScrotum is horrible.

Clement's attitude has been questioned in the Boston media during his injury-filled tenure, although the western PA connection would resonate with fans.
At least we won't have to hear from Tracy how "intruiging" everything is. Tracy still didn't eclipse McClendon's "the 25 guys in that room" cliche, but he is a solid #2 in the over use of a single catch phrase as manager.
It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes. Jack Wilson needs to step up as a leader as does Bay, Nady and LaRoche. I won't be surprised to see Bay get moved, if only because he is not viewed as an asset in the clubhouse. I know folks think that is overblown, but obviously Coonelly and Huntington don't think so and neither do I.

Well, I am not overly pleased with the choice of Russell, but he does seem well respected outside of Pittsburgh. What was weird is that the Pirates played best when Nady and Bay were hurt. Morgan and Pearce seemed to breath life into the team. When Nady and Bay came back and started again, they started to lose again. It also seems like they are looking for a middle reliever. Latroy Hawkins name keeps coming up.
