Martinez Injures Quadriceps Muscle
SEATTLE (AP) -- Seattle Mariners designated hitter Edgar Martinez strained his left quadriceps muscle in the first inning of Sunday's game against Arizona.
Martinez walked, then took off for second on a hit-and-run play with John Olerud.
Martinez grabbed his left leg just before reaching second as Olerud fouled off the pitch. Trainers rushed onto the field, and Martinez jogged up the right-field line to test his leg.
He remained in the game, but was pinch hit for in the third. Martinez will be re-evaluated Monday.
Martinez, who played in his sixth All-Star game last week, is batting .299.
