I'm sensing that some of yunz are thinking that Craig Wilson is more of an extra piece than a potential starter? Maybe a platoon player in RF and sometime 1B when KY needs a rest? He certainly had trouble at 1B in the Benson start. Rios, while not 100%, appears to be a solid contributor with momentary lapses. Maybe he's the deal-maker in a trade with an AL club?

here's the problem I am seeing with Craig. He needs to play every day in order to become better at hitting the off-speed stuff. He also needs to play every day if he is going to become better on defense. Here's the problem: where do you put him defensively that he is not going to totally kill us as he did the other night? I'm afraid that the answer is nowhere.
We were talking about it the other night at the game. Almost every single pitch that Schilling threw to him was in the mid 80s.. from where we were sitting the first few innings, you could see how far out in front he was. He had his bat clear through the zone by the time the ball even reached the plate on more than one occassion.
I'm starting to think that the AL might be the only place for him.

I have posted elsewhere that Craig Wilson needs to be playing at some position, somewhere, every day, in order to settle in and become comfortable somewhere. We have done him no favors developmentally by putting him here there and everywhere on seemingly a whim. Whether he pans out or not is still to be seen, but we need to let him play and learn first base, if that is his future.

Everyone probably knows how much I like Craig, since I take every oppurtunity to talk about how I think that he should be playing every day.
I think that he could be a very, very good hitter, given the chance to hit full time. This part time stuff, as Jimbo said, is not helping him or us. It even hurts his trade value, if they decide that is what they want to do with him.
It also hurts his defense, which is not great as it is. If KY weren't the great defensive first basemen that he is, we wouldn't be having this conversation, becuase Craig would be the first basemen. I think that he would be adequate given the chance to play there consistently.

With Rios knee being bruised and his power and mobility reduced, they might be looking to give him some time on the DL, which would give Craig a shot at playing RF for a couple of weeks. He just might end up in the AL as a DH.
