Patrick Roy Vs. that arrogant pompous ass in detroit, Dominel Hasek (sorry Brian, I know you are a Wings fan, but i can't hide my true feelings about the man)
I honestly say I hope that the Avs pummel them just because I hate Hasek with a passion.
Great game played tonight by the Abs... the entire bar was on their feet.

Last night's game was a great game not by the Avs but by both teams. Just a great game seven, and that's what it's all about.
I too hope Roy beats Hasek and the Wings. Several Wings fans I know are incredibly arrogant, and nothing would give me more satisfaction than them losing at home, in game seven, in a couple overtimes.
Anyone wanna take bets on the number of fights in this series? I say 5 at least.

i didn't see the whole game, but i would imagine that in a 1-0 game it is played well by both teams. I have nothing against the Wings as a team... and I do not know any red wings fans. For me, it is all about Hasek.

I only saw the highlights.
Selanne had a wide open net once and missed it.
Why don't you like Hasek?

well, two reasons. My friend chas had a boyfriend who I became friends with who was Hasek's neighbor up in Buffalo. I became friends with him over time and he would tell me stories about Hasek. One day, I was up in Buffalo and Chas drove me by Hasek's house so that I could see it. We were sitting out front on the street, mind you, and he comes out of the house yelling at us to go away. We were not doing anything at all except for sitting there ON THE STREET!
The second reason is actually more it though. I don't remember the exact quote, but I am trying to find it. Last season, when the Pens were playing the Sabres in the playoffs, hasek said something which was basically to the effect of "The Penguins are an awful team who has no right being here. There is no way they will even come close to beating the Dominator" (he actually referred to HIMSELF as that.) Ever since then, I have despised the man.

Shawn, no offense taken. I have a few teams I can't stand, either. Besides, lots of people dislike the Wings. Mostly because of the money the shell out. They are the Yankees of hockey in a contractual sense.
I always find it funny how many locals complain about the Yanks and George's money, but have no problem with the Wings picking up half of the active future Hall of Famers available. Typical fans. They become blind, obnoxious or both about their own team when it wins. In that sense, Josh is right about the fans attitudes.
I have no strong feelings about Hasek one way or another. Although, it seems to me he is better facing sixty shots than twenty. I think he gets bored without enough action. The reference to himself in the third person is, umm, interesting.
It should be a great series. I'll guess the Wings in seven. I think they have a few more healthy options than Colorado. However, if the Avs win, I won't lose any sleep. (I'm a Forsberg fan, too.) Just someone, anyone please stop the Leafs.

I have no love for Carolina. Frankly, seeing hockey teams in the deep South is something I find rather disturbing. But, that said, someone must crush the Leafs. They have to be taught a lesson. :2guns: :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:

What a series! What a couple of series! Avs and Kings - Avs and Sharks...and now - The Series!
That empty-netter that Selanne missed in the first period pretty much doomed the Sharks. I think they might have won - had that puck gone in. From then on, it was all Roy.
The Avs should just bring the Stanley Cup with them to open this series - because this will be for the Cup...the Leafs or 'Canes won't have a chance against either of these teams. This will sound very arrogant, and I'm not even that knowledgable of a hockey fan, but I didn't see any team from the East that could have beaten the Canucks - the #8 seed.
I agree with Trots - the Wings will have their own wing in the HOF from this team - Federov, Chelios, Shanahan, Hull, Yzerman, Hasek - the best team deferred money can buy. I like the Avs chances, though. If the wings try to out-muscle Forsberg, Sakic will kill 'em, and if they try to keep up with Sakic, well, vice versa...

personally, I would LOVE to see Carolina win. Their chances are very slim of doing so. But hey, no one thought they would get by Montreal, and there they are.

Bill, the Avs have their own group of future HOFers, too. Roy, Blake, Sakic and, perhaps, Forsberg. Even some of their young stars have a chance. Only time will tell. I just don't want you to think as defending champions, with a star-studded lineup, that the Avs were some sort of poor underdog in this series.

What a win by Detroit last night! They played a LOT better than i thought after that little break. I thought they'd come out flat, which they did for a period, but McCarty really brought the team's energy back.
I saw Hasek a few weeks ago, and he never yelled at me.:2guns::biggrinpa:
I predict Detroit in 5!

I thought the Wings would be flat, too. The layoff was too long. Wrong, again. Very nice opening performance.

Ha ha, I wouldn't plead poverty on behalf of the Avs, Trots. Although I am kinda' wondering about Roy. The Wings could easily have won game 2 - for that matter, the Avs could have easily won game 2. Roy just won't let them do anything the easy way, though. Goaltending has not been the highlight so far that I thought this series would be.
Oh, well, another big game tonight!

Bill, I think we are seeing the end of both Roy's and Hasek's careers. No, they may not retire after the season, but I don't think either is at the level they were at even a few seasons ago.
Roy seems like he is either brilliant, as he was throughout much of the regular season, or just plain terrible. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground. While Hasek seems to be very good often, but not dominate as he once was. They both appear to only be able to muster up greatness for short bursts. Both are certainly capable of getting hot again, but their performances just seem more erratic now.
As for the series, 1-1 is what everyone should have expected. These are two closely matched teams and they've played like it. I'll guess they split the games in Denver, too. Forsberg is just awesome, btw.
Out East, how 'bout them 'Canes? Like a couple of notable Pens fans around here (you know who you are), I'm glad to see Ron Francis doing well. Of course, we all know I want the Leafs to lose, so I'm happy to see Carolina's success. I'll admit if Carolina advances, tv ratings are going to go in the toilet, but I'll take anyone that's not Toronto.

Game 3 was more of what I expected this series to be like. Kinda'. Except for the part that the Avs don't shoot. If you don't shoot, you sure can't score. I'm one of Forsberg's biggest fans also, but jeesh...0 shots? And only 2 shots by Sakic? If the Avs are going to hang with the Wings, they need to find a way to win this kind of game. If not, it will be over in 5.
As far as the goalies, I must agree, Trots. Especially Roy, even though he has the stats that says he's just about the best that ever was, he's definitely on the down-side. He played his ass off last night, but you don't know what he'll do the next time out. Can't blame this one on him, though. Not when the Avs were outshot 42-21.
These have been some surprisingly clean and fast games. No real dirty deeds, and both teams trying to stay out of the penalty box. No one is facing elimination yet, though, so this is subject to change.
I must give a big Tip O' the Cap to Yzerman...man, he was taking some big hits, and just kept getting back up. That had to have a big effect on the rest of the Wings, just to see the way he left his guts steaming on the ice. If Forsberg and Drury had worried a little bit more about the puck and less about him, there could have been a different outcome. On to game 4!
Go Avs!

I problably gained more respect for him last night, than the rest of his career combined! The Wings had more than twice as many shots than the Ave's, and it still went 13 minutes into overtime before we got our second goal.

With games 4 & 5 we see the pendulum swing...I kinda' see a little different game tomorrow - this is the first of the series with a team facing elimination. If the Wings keep their cool, and stay out of the penalty box, they'll probably win, the way it's gone so far. Playing at home seems to be a detriment for either team.
BUT...the Avs are throwing their bench at the Wings, and having some pretty good results! If the Wings get testy, a crucial penalty here or there will hurt them...like I said, I like the Avs' chances...

Roy drops the puck...HE SCORES!!!! While we're at it, let's measure Hasek's stick, too...aw, shucks, it's OK - so much for that! Looks like a game 7 is in the works with the Avs down 2-0 after 2...

Want the good or the bad?
Here is what I think...
1. If the AVS can stop scoring on THEMSELVES then that will take care of 50% of Detroits goals.
2. Somehow or another we are going to have to convince the officiating team that the AVS can be likeable, just like the WINGS. Maybe they can call some in our favor too. In my opinion, this series has had some questionable calls and no-calls... most are in favor of the WINGS.
3. SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT & And be in the crease ready for Hasek to give up the rebound! Geez. I agree with Rockie Bill on this one. You cannot score if you don't shoot the puck! Hasek gives up more rebounds than any other goalie that I have ever seen, but we are always in the wrong place to benefit from that, in fact, I very rarely ever see our guys up on Hasek when the puck is in their zone.
We have too many times where Forsberg is driving the net (or Sakic for that matter), and they slow down and look to the sides for someone to 'pass' to. If nobody is vailable they don't shoot it. What is up with that? I hear they only want 'quality shots'... so now they won't take a shot unless it is quality? Who Cares, shoot the puck - you might get lucky
Just my 2 cents.
GO AVS!
p.s. this is your last chance!

Hey Chad, how goes it? All good points, but the Avs aren't listening...after 1 period we have a laugher going here...
4-0 Wings!
The Avs have broken down in every sense of the word, and Roy looks like a lost little kid out there...
I thought that even though the Wings would probably win, the Avs would at least make them work up a sweat...guess not. They are definitely in a bind now - at the very least they have to get 5 shots past Hasek, and that's presuming that they can even get off 5 shots...speaking of shots, I think I'll go have a few...

Yes, it was an anti-climatic finish. Wings romp 7-0. It's a shame the Avs couldn't get going tonight. Roy picked a bad time to have an off-night, but he didn't get much help.
To give my local guys some love, this is the way they played for much of the regular season. They just have a deep offensive attack. It's hard to focus on one or two guys when you have 4-5 with 400-500 career goals each.
If the Wings play like this in the next round, it won't last long. However, I expect a good performance from the 'Canes. They have nothing to lose and are on a roll. The pressure here is enormous. The Stanley Cup hype begins (continues?) here in Detroit.

Congrats to your Wings, Trots! The Avs didn't have a clue last night, and the Wings took it to them early and often. The middle games of this series was great hockey, though. I thought games 5 and 6 showed some of the best skating by any teams all season. It's too bad it ended like this for the Avs - this series was for the Cup, after all.
I won't predict a sweep - but I wouldn't be surprised, either...the Wings can put together a 4th line better than anything the Canes can throw at them.
One good thing about the Avs losing...the women here in Colorado can shave off their playoff beards now...it was starting to get real ugly around here. Also, I'm sick of hearing 'Red Wings Suck!'...I'm not a Wings fan, but most of the people that wear their hockey knowledge on a t-shirt don't know the difference between icing and an infield fly.
Get 'em next year, Avs!

Thanks, Bill. I know what you mean about the local fans. The bandwagon jumpers can get really bad around here, too. It does take away from my enjoyment of the playoffs.
Btw, I loved the women shaving again comment.
