I am tired of all the Tiger bashing going on.

I'm tired of the losing.

I'm tired of the sports writers dooming the team's future because
the team's recent history stinks.

I'm tired of flipping on the game to hear the next three batters are Halter, Simon and Magee, three guys better suited for the bench than the starting lineup.

I'm tired of the Tigers leaving RISP.

I'm tired of seeing twenty-three guys that can't bunt.

I'm tired of managers that can't control the clubhouse.

I'm tired of fans who only support the team when they win.

I'm tired of waiting for prospects to arrive to build around.

I'm tired of the Tiger jokes being told by people who know less about baseball than I do about biochemistry.

I'm tired of batters not taking a couple of pitches before swinging.

I'm tired of Bobby Higginson and I like the guy.

I'm tired of Mike Ilitch owning the team.

Most of all, I am tired of feeling this way.

:itsok: I know how you feel. No-one around here talks bad about Detroit, us Celtics fans know how it feels to lose. Hang in there hon.

Bill Simmons did a great story on Page 2, it talked about being a fan thru all the bad times, and then finally your team wins, and it becomes all worth it. You're a stand-up guy, you don't desert your team. It will get better, I promise.

Look at the Pats, worst to first. And our C's? Who'da thought?

Get some rest, good times are ahead!

I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!

LET'S GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!:angel2:

Thanks, pp. I haven't given up. The last week has really pushed me over the edge. It's part of a long season. I'm hoping for some moves around the trade deadline to lift my spirits.

Besides, if I can make it through the Sox post-season history, I can make it through this. However, I'm ever so thankful the Sox are having a good season. If they weren't, I'd be left with my fantasy league teams, which isn't the same.

I'm also happy the C's are still playing. It's kinda nice to watch an important Celtics game, again. Winning them is even better.

Hey i'm with you! It's getting really anoying, and this organization was one of the best in history. We deserve better than this.

But i do disagree with all the Tigers fans view on Illitch. He does want to win. He said at the begining of the rebuilding years that he wouldn't spend money on the team untill they show they can win. And they havn't done that, but he has spent money.

I can relate. :pout:
I've been an A's fan since the Charley Finley era. We went from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the food chain and stayed there for years. Those were some fun games to attend. Its where I learned to heckle. It is nice to have a lineup like the Yanks can buy, but watching the youngster give 100% gives me more satisfaction...
That ole wheel is gonna roll around again. Hang in there.

Wanting to win and doing something about it are two different things. Ilitch has buried this ballclub, about five managers, two GM's, two team presidents and an era of fans by his mismanagement. One minute he offers Juan Gonzalez the world on a platter, then after Gonzalez balks, he cuts payroll. Where did the Gonzalez money go?

I lamented the Matt Anderson pick in another post, but suffice to say, I like Anderson, I love J.D. Drew. Ilitch's lack of financial support has caused the Tigers to alter their draft selections, the Anderson vs. Drew issue being the most noteworthy instance. There is no telling how that has affected the ballclub in the long-term.

Ilitch's poor oversight goes far beyond the financial constraints he places on the organization. What about the stadium debacle? He ignored the old place for years in hopes of getting a new yard. He promised the world if the new place got built and the Tigers are worse than ever. He blames the demise on his part of the stadium's debt. It seems that debt on his loan has tied his hands. Mike didn't you know what your payments were going to be BEFORE signing on the dotted line? Have you got an accountant on staff? You didn't know how much the stadium was going to cost you?

Remember the uproar over the stadium's dimensions? When pressured for an answer, Mr. I. said he had no idea that the ballpark would be configured the way it is. What??? You plead for years for a new stadium, brag about how much money you are personally putting into the place, are a former minor league player and you didn't know the place was a big as the Grand Canyon? Hey, I've got no problems with the place as is, but I think maybe he should have looked at a drawing of the place once or twice before it was built. Did I mention he didn't know what ticket prices were going to be either?

Look, I think the guy does want to win. However, this team has been in the toilet for over a decade and the only constant in the organization is him. I'd have more respect for him if he cared to join the party, however he lets his underlings take the heat and he heads off to the Joe. I'd even have pity for him if he would just admit he's in over his head, doesn't have the money to compete, and cashed out. Instead he does neither. In fact, he now appears to be waiting for the inevitable labor stoppage hoping that some sort of salary cap/revenue sharing plan will provide him with a new start. (Btw, I wonder how successful his NHL team will be if the NHL imposes a salary cap/revenue sharing plan after the league shuts down in 2004?)

In addition, I believe he has lied to fans and people in his own organization. Worse yet, when faced with criticism about the Tigers he his dumbfounded. He then points to his success with the Red Wings as an example of his good intentions. Yeah, Mike and Nixon was a great president except for that little Watergate thing.

I don't care if the Wings peel off three more Stanley Cups in a row, that doesn't spare him a single ounce of criticism for the way he has handled the Tigers. Until I see something different, I am confident Mr. Ilitch is the single biggest source of the Tigers misery.
