Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda...
From The Tribune-Review:
FARRIS WHEELS IN
Visiting the Pirates before Friday's game was former first-round draft pick Mark Farris, who is entering his senior season as quarterback at Texas A&M.
Farris has no interest in coming back to baseball. He said he was just stopping by to visit old friends.
"I should have said I just can't get baseball out of my head, but that wouldn't be a prank," he said. "It would be wrong."
Farris, a standout high school third baseman, was the 11th overall pick in the 1994 draft. The Pirates selected him one pick before the Boston Red Sox took shortstop Nomar Garciaparra.
Farris never made it above the Double-A level before leaving the organization.
"He was a decent baseball player," McClendon said. "There was some work he needed to do. He needed to shorten his swing and be more consistent with the bat."
Does McClendon think Farris made the right choice by picking football over baseball?
"Only time will tell," he said.
