I still can't believe it. The Celtics go on a 41-15 fourth quarter run to down the Nets 94-90. They were behind 21 points to start the 4th and as much as twenty-six at one point in the third. Pierce, who had struggled for the last game and three quarters, led the comeback with twenty-something points in the final stanza. It has to rank with the greatest games in team history. Right up there with Bird's and Hondo's steals.
The Celtics were horrible in the first half. They committed gobs of TOs and couldn't hit a layup literally. They earned those twenty plus point deficits. I'm not sure how they turned it around, but I see on the highlights that Pierce and Kidd got into a little skirmish and a lot of smack. Then Walker goes on a profanity laced tirade in the huddle, mostly aimed at Pierce, telling him to forget him (Kidd) and get in the game. If you see the clips, you can read Antoine's lips for yourself. It's colorful, to say the least.
Next thing you know, Pierce is driving to the goal (a concept suggested here by someone), past every Net and scoring in bunches. Kidd disappears and takes the NJ offense with him. The Celtics go on to post the greatest playoff comeback in NBA history.
What's worse is that I missed the last half of the game due to running errands. I did pass by a tv in a store with just over a minute left the C's were down five. An incredible comeback just to get that close, as they were down twenty when I left the house, but I walked away from the tv anyway. (I know, I am an idiot, princess.)
I don't know if the C's will win this series, but they have shown much more heart than I gave them credit for. Their style of play may not be to my liking, but as I heard Bob Cousy say this week, it's hard not to get excited about this team. I can't remember the last time I was this happy about a win I didn't even see.
